Ross, what do you mean by 'adding a second bulb'? Do you mean creating another area with another ballast and bulb?

Yes. Another area is another zone next to the one you already have. Cheaper than trying to struggle with a high wattage bulb replacement (in my estimation.) Won't need the bulb mover and won't need the change-over, either.

I don't do most Dendros or large, "floofy orchids". For me it's minis (like Angraecoides), Masdies, Paphs, and others that crept in somewhere along the line. See my orchid list for complete collection (usually not current.)

Marilyn I missed the statement that your current bulb is two years old. I try to replace mine every year. With the amount of time these lights are on, they will start to degrade after 8 to 12 months. You may be surprised at the difference in brightness with a new bulb. Also look for one that is recommended for plant growing. I think Ross is saying add another light fixture and consider not using the light mover. That way your plants will get more light over the course of the day without going to higher wattage. Am I going in the right direction Ross? John

Yes. Light movers are great, but you'll get more light on plants by adding a second 600W fixture. I only ran a single HD fixture when I was doing that and it took care of an area approx 48" by 36" just fine, but too much heat! Went to t5 florescent.
