Default Indoor Grow Tent

I’ll always love my minis, but I’ve been pining for some big, lush tropical aroids and orchids lately. I freed up a little space in the house recently so of course this is what I did with it - and immediately got a Sharry Baby to christen it.

4.5x4.5’ greenhouse, Hydro Mars TS600 LED light to supplement the sunlight, and a Zoomed Hygrotherm I had lying around to control an ultrasonic humidifier when humidity falls below 75% and a fan when temperature goes above 78. The humidity sensor on my ancient Hygrotherm is broken, but Zoomed is graciously sending me a replacement free of charge (despite being way outside of their warranty).

My dream plant is Epidendrum medusae - I’ve never had the space to try it before. If my temps don’t go above 80 now, at the hottest time of the year, maybe I can give it a try. So far it seems to go down to 70 at night and shoot up to 78 pretty quickly with the morning sun, and it’s like a sauna in there in the morning at 78 and 80% humidity. It’s a wonderful experience in the desert.

It looks great! My only suggestion would be to leave the fan running 24/7. It (the fan) will not be cooling the contained space and even warm growers like to have the moving air around them.

The fan can either suck air in from or blow air out of a mesh window, and the room around the tent is cooler at least during the day, so I’m going to experiment with what creates the best cooling result. Probably fan blowing out with the door vent open an inch or two at the bottom. But that drops humidity fast, so I won’t want to run it 24/7.

You can get rid of all the rest of your furniture and put in more orchid habitats. It's healthier to stand rather than sit.
