I'd consider it spam to remove and ban user. It's commercial - and soliciting more commercial posts. Could go under classified, but I think it just doesn't belong. However, the user is young, and not hiding... maybe simply removing with a note as to why and not banning.

I think you need to define a standard policy.

It becomes confusing if Ray is allowed to mention and promote products but ban this LED vendor after only one post.

Ray has history here, an established business and reputation. That was earned but he had to start somewhere. (Sorry Ray, for using you in this manner)

Although, he mostly (maybe exclusively) posts pictures of his plants, Peter Lin posts here. There are other vendors, also. I haven't paid attention to how and what they post but have posted in the past.

As for the youth of the OP, he could actually be an 80 year old scammer. We don't know. It would be appropriate to protect OB with some disassociation disclaimer.

IMO, the whole classified section needs to archived. The posts are obsolete.

Addendum: I don't like the requirement of posting a review on the board (it implies an association). Posting a review elsewhere is fine.

I agree.

Back when Marty was active, I asked and was given permission to advertise, and have continued to do so. Several others have also done so.

I see nothing wrong with the LED offer/request. Assuming the offer is true, I'd like to give them a try.

just something to think about...

i used to be very active on a few other forums, a spearfishing one, a tropical fruit one and a few others....

start ups and companies with smart R&D dept are always looking to get their products into the hands of their targeted consumers for feedback and publicity....as long as no one is being deceived i always thought it was awesome and i have done many free trials and reviews for all manner of stuff, some was awesome and i will sing the praises of the product forever and some suck

Too bad Andy doesn't come here and offer a free plant!

Agreed, it's a fine line in the sand. It will be discussed by the moderators and we'll get back with you. My belief is neither I nor Roberta should be doing anything until we discuss with our mentor Camille. Both of us are just too new for this particular finesse, in my opinion anyway.

On the "Ray" issue... there are parameters we follow that have been set up. Ray is allowed to post because he's a long time contributor to OB. And has Marty's blessing. We'll be back, post more about those parameters, and hopefully go forward.

My apologies for ignorance, but ya gotta learn it somewhere. Fortunately, Camille is no longer on her own, and we are slowly getting a learning curve. I just hate to say something or take action and have it not be accurate.

So meanwhile, feel free to post your opinion here, but let's not go emailing an unknown person about free LEDs until we get back with ya. Thanks for your patience.

He probablt isn't legit, who gives out free stuff to strangers.

But Roberta's first reaction to take out the cane is no surprise.

Ray gets away with whatever he wants and would never get told off though

There is certainly no fairness here and a lot of preferrential treatment from the moderators from what I have seen.

Well, I take personal offense of your statement. You have been on this board for a month and a half, made 15 posts, and obviously have no clue what you're speaking of.

I have personally had disagreements with Ray, come darned close to the "telling off" each other you speak of, but have always managed to come to a civil conclusion. At end of day it's what adults do when they disagree... have civil discourse.

If you believe there is no fairness on this board, and members are treated preferentially by this moderator, then I invite you to state your case on the appropriate forum. This ain't it. I would suggest "About this Board." .
