The new roots are no longer sticking to the mount, which is just a small plank of hardwood.

If it still fits on the mount, and is otherwise happy, leave it there. They often send roots wandering around in space.

A photo would really help here, but it sounds to me like the mount is too small. Root attachment gives the plant mechanical stability and "security", if you will. A well-established (i.e., stuck to the mount at a lot of places) plant will grow and bloom better than one that isn't.

If the plant's is barely attached, remove it and put it on a bigger mount. If it is wrapped around the mount pretty well, find a way to permanently attach it it a larger mount, as-is.

Thanks for the reply.

Ray, it's firmly attached, and has a couple roots still growing onto the mount. There are a couple others that are just growing in random directions though.

It's still just a small plant, 3 leaves and a new one on the way. I'll post a picture when I get back home.

Sometimes orchid roots grow goofy like that. You can try redirecting the roots to attach to the mount, but they may be air roots that aren't supposed to attach to anything. If the plant is hooked on firmly and can't be moved with a gentle jiggle, it's probably okay.
