Where do you find your mounts?

Do you think Filbert branches with loads of moss on them would work for a spider orchid? I've got endless supply of live and dead Filbert with moss growing all over it.

HI Folks:
I rarely buy mounting material - only a few pieces of treefern. I usually get my wood from the fire wood pile : - ) and on hikes. One of the best places to shop for such odds and ends is on a powerline cut, (you know, where the high tension lines run overland) or along the road where the DPW has done some trimming. As long as the pieces are on the ground, it is fair game. Hey, don't go cutting wood down in the State Park or on someone's private woodpile or property, tho! If you're trimming rhododendron or Mtn Laurel, Lilac or similar hard wood shrubs, pick through the leavings. I also have a red cedar mount for a Dendrobium linguiforme that is working our great - I had to whisk it away from husband and his chainsaw - I've even rescued a nice chunk from the campfire and it now holds a nice Epidendrum.
