Mount rotting, remove plant?

Aloha everyone! I haven't posted here in long time, but I have been reading and enjoying all the info and pics.

My Stenocoryne aureo fulva has been mounted to a small log for four years now. The plant although blooming every year (in fact just gave me two bloom spikes with two flowers each just a couple months ago) has seen better days and now the wood it is mounted on seems to be rotting.






There are roots coming through the log from the top and appearing on the bottom. Along with mold... I sprayed cinnamon/alcohol to try and combat it.



I can lift the pseudobulb pretty easily and can see roots under it. It can't follow the growing path it has because it will just jump off the edge of the log...



Any suggestions? Try and remove... Leave it till the wood rots more? Will it harm the plant? I would really like to save it. Any info would be great.

Spraying with cinnamon could create problems with the roots. If it is rotting badly I guess I would remove it. I have a few plants that have managed to put roots through the mount even though it is solid.

Root will penetrate its way to find water and minerals...so it's normal for it to grow thru the wood log u have there. I'll say remove it from the log and save this baby..cinnamon and alcohol will harm the root in the long run.

Thank you for the replies! I did my best not to spray the roots with the cinnamon. I only sprayed the white mold. It worked a little, but now there is new mold growing over the areas I sprayed... Going to find a new mount or pot it up. Hopefully I can remove it without messing up the roots too much. Not sure if I can save the root that bored through the log.

Try and dry out the wooden log...just spray enuff water to keep to root moist daily. Hope you can fight the mold.

I was able to remove it from the log and saved most of the existing roots. I lucked out as it was putting out new roots just below the bulbs also. It is repotted and looks to be doing well. Thank you all for your help!
