Default First Mounted Orchid

Hello! I just finished mounting my first orchid. I have had a lot of issues with Phals in standard bark culture and so I thought I would try mounting one. I think this one is called Phal. Golden Embers (if we can believe the printing on the pot it came in). It makes a really pleasantly weird green/yellow bloom. It is a little dehydrated at the moment, but I hope it will perk up since I cut off all the dead roots and cleaned it up. The challenge will be getting it enough humidity. Wish me luck!

Would wrapping some sphagnum moss around the roots help with the moisture? I agree that the challenge will be proving sufficient moisture.

Good luck and let us know how it fares

Oooh! Ooooh! What a coincidence!!

I found a discounted noid Phal at the store so bought it and decided to experiment. Never mounted anything before, and recently had to clean up a fallen hickory tree...so I gathered up the bark and the rest you can see here!

It's been about two weeks so far, and it's starting to grow new roots and a new leaf. Exciting! Good luck!

Nice! I'm thinking about moving mine outside too because it has just been so humid lately that I think it would really thrive. Good luck!

How's it going, Corsetière? Mine's got some roots coming in, looks like they are going to attach soon!

Nice! Mine is making a new leaf and there are tiny nubs like it might be thinking of making some roots! I really need to get some quality sphagnum to put under the roots to help with moisture. I'll try and take photos soon.

Some improvement, CambriaWhat! A new leaf has emerged, I see 3 emerging roots, and there is a old root with a green, growing tip! Woohoo!

But, she is still not going to win any beauty contests! She's looking a tad dry still. I just added some sphag under the roots. We'll see if that helps manage moisture!

I think you will find the sphag will help like that. My phal I mounted recently (my only phal that is mounted) was struggling a bit to begin with, I put a bit of moss under some of the roots like you've done, not covering them just under them and now the plant seems really happy.

Yeah, I checked in on the Phal today and the sphag was already dry! It really puts the humidity situation in perspective! it should help a lot!
