Here are a few of the mounts I have done lately.

First is a now noid (I lost the tag) that I put into a hollow cherry knot. I don't know how it will hold up, but the plant is already attaching to it after a month or so.

A very weathered piece of unkown wood that I boiled and baked then mounted a P. equestris to.

And finally, my B. nodosa that just finished blooming. I decided I would look to the future and mounted it to a rather large white oak burl. I am hoping for a nice specimen in the future. This burl weathered naturally for a year, then I boiled and baked it. It still has the bark attached. Got a huge amount of burls left on this tree to harvest.

So what do you think???

I think they look great! Somewhere in my memory bank I seem to remember hearing a talk or reading an article on mounting on oak and there was a concern of the tannins in oak causing the roots to not grow onto the mount. Boiling it first is probably a good idea.

I have recently attached a few plants to cedar mounts and am anxiously awaiting new roots that I hope will seek the wood. Good luck with yours.

Burls are great mounting media. Hard to find where I live. Wish I had more access to those great knots. The most enduring wood mount I can find around here is Slash Pine roots left over from the ruins of Hurricane Andrew. They are excellent for mounts and last.....well, I have some that have been in the elements for 20+ yrs and are just as solid as the day they were ripped up out of the ground during the storm. Your's look great!

Thanks, guys.

BAM, I can get an unlimited supply of different burls. Anybody needs some, let me know.

The nodosa was mounted to a piece of cedar shingle that was the size of my hand.

These are really nice, Jonada. You've inspired me to go out and look for some burls.
