Invasive Orchid on My Mount??
Default Invasive Orchid on My Mount??

Hello,

I have a Lepanthes Telipogoniflora that i bought on a tiny piece of Tree Fern about a year ago. It was growing great and blooming well until a different orchid popped up on the mount. The new one is totally taking over the mount and choking the Lepanthes. What should I do? I'm thinking i can't take it off the mount without killing it??? Any Ideas?

In the picture, the Lepanthes is the plant with the more red leaves and the green ones are the other plant.

Its a fernlike weed better pull it out before it takes over and chokes your Lepanthes to death....beautiful flowers....you must post some close ups of the blooms.

I am afraid that the Lepanthes cannot stand the rivalry of another strong growing plant for long. So when in doubt you'll have to kill the other one.

I agree, if the Lepanthes is the one you want then you probably will have to kill the other by pulling it off as a weed. I guess if a bit came away with roots you could try growing it separately but I don't think you can guarantee to save both.

Thank you everyone for your help! The best I could do was cut off all the leaves as the roots are totally intertwined with the lepanthes and the tree fern. Hoping the rotting roots from the invader don't kill this little guy too:-( next time I will know to cull sooner....

Yup... I grow everything in one terrarium. Nothing special, just a few computer fans and a mister for humidity. Everything is blooming for me. The room is pretty cool all the time because I'm cheap and turn the heat off and the walls are thin :-) my philosophy is very hands off...
