I wish I had the shade to hang a ton of orchids. The trees that have the ample shade in the summer are deciduous and of course won't in the winter.

I am in search of a sturdy, fast growing, eye appealing, small (15') shade tree that is not a ficus for my back yard. That is not asking for much, now is it..

This all on my unofficial wish list!
Hi JackiBlu,

I planted Lakeview Jasmine. You can get it either as a standard tree or shrub type and train it with about 4/5 main trunks. I planted both. They will give you filtered light and keep their leaves and have wonderful fragrance. I'll take some pictures if you want to see them just let me know.

MrGreen61 your mounts look great to me. You are so fortunate to be able to have them outside. I have my mounts inside an orchidarium all year.

Well Done

Sheridan

I don't think anyone needs to educate you on your technique for mounting orchids. Your specimens look fabulous. I also noticed the bamboo structure in many of your photos. Did you build it? I recently acquired several pieces of aged bamboo and would like to build something similar for an outdoor display, but don't have a clue on how to fasten or tie the supports. Any of your suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Yes Lorriaine, OHHHHH.. I would definitely like to see which tree has alluded me in my search. Is it Florida friendly too? (environment & hurricane proof-ish) LOL.. Yeah, I want it all.. LOL IT ALL!!

I have two royal poinciana and a jacaranda tree in my front yard which will cover that horrid west boiling sun. Both are 'dirty' tree's but OH MY when they bloom is sooo worth it. The poinciana's had a couple flowers this year nothing yet for my jacaranda which is just breathe taking when in full bloom. I am hoping the Jacaranda also has the canopy like the poinciana does. Can I get that lucky? LOL I was wanting the Ylang-Ylang but I hear they are really a messy tree altho the frangrance is outstanding.. but I think I could be allergic. Someone told me it was similiar to night blooming jasmine which is killer on me. So, I will rethink that cutie for now.

TIA
JackiBlu

Hey Jackie, I have the 3 'Lakeview Jasmine' pictured here and they are also growing in the medians all over Boca. I'd say they are Fla friendly. I love the fragrance very light. The leaves are smaller so more light can get through. I saw the shrub growth type and thought immediately "MOUNTS/BASKETS" More places to hang my chids I just prune out the new growth from the bottom and let the branches get stronger. You can get them from the HD, Lowes and even Wal-Mart Garden here. Nurserys will also have them. Easy growth. The 2 in the last couple pics were planted last summer. They are really taking off. The other one was just a little guy when I bought it. I moved 2x's in 3 years. It's looking really great.
