Ok, so this may seem like a silly question...but I've been wondering--what is the best thing to use to attach a phal TO a mount? Is there a a type of wire or string that has the best success? How about hot glue gun? j/k!!!! ;-)

I think any string will work. I would prefer to use something more hidden such as a fishing line or fine thread. The phal will probably soon attached itself with its gripping roots

In terms of phals gripping roots  - I have one that I planted into some CHC [coconut chip husk] and styrofoam and now I can turn the pot upside down and the phal doesn't move at all! I was actually thinking I might hang the pot up if there was some way I could do so that the crown is vertical so that the water would run off it.. Can't wait to have more hanging space! :) |
I use 15# fishing line and an extra pair of hands when needed  Fishing line is not so forgiving but you can not see the line and the look is fresh.
Damian I have a phal bellina and have it in a pot with a wire hanger attached to the top of the pot and it dangles perfectly. I do give my phals good air circulation noting they love to rot and with doing this in the mornings but days end the crown is dry. Another idea, if the rooting system is attached get a wooden basket same size and place inside, the baskets have eye's where you can attach a hanger. Now mind you my phals are not totally vertical and have not had any problems with crown rot (better knock on wood huh), the crown at about 10:00. |
I use fishing line too because it looks better than anything else. If used and tied carefully it doesn't damage the plant.

You laugh at a hot glue gun but it actually works. Just let it cool slightly and you're good to go.

I've heard that before. How fast does it dry that you don't have to be holding the plant there for hours on end?

Thanks for your reply Cheryl :) You wouldn't happen to have a photo of your P. bellina? |
