UPDATE:

while i cannot speak to the longevity of this design i am ready to tell you that the proof of concept is a HUGE SUCCESS

this is a bulb. beccarii cross i mounted on sept 14...this is from early November...

a second new growth

underneath you can see where a lot of the existing roots have started to grow in to the mount as well

i think that adding a dowel or some lengths of bamboo in the core will make this a home rune bc then it should not degrade or lose its integrity for a long while

Bamboo cane will degrade, and pretty fast too if sitting inside the wet core.

You can get PVC conduits, which are about 1/2" in diameter.

For something smaller, try the plastic rods used to adjust the angle in window blinds.

brilliant! that plastic dowel has to be cheap!

i was also thinking about 1/2" pvc since i could use that to water the middle as well. Great suggestions

Just pvc? Or drill holes in it like you do to water a tomato plant?
