Here is my newest mount, didn't have to use anything to secure it to the cork, had a nice little crevice that I drilled out a little bit and shoved it down in there with some sphag... looks like it was born there.

Looks good Frank. Cork is great to use, all those little nooks and crannies just calling out for a plant.

For those who "spray" or "mist" daily (or however often) I would like to know how you go about doing this? For example...what do you use? I regular 32oz squirt bottle makes my hand tired...lol. Hi Becca,

Are you dunking them all in the same solution? 30 minutes to me seems to be too long. Even dunking them in separate solutions I would only do so until the roots and whatever media you use are all wet. If the cork bark is turning black it may be soaked and breaking down on you.

I would imagine that most would agree that they would mist or spray until the individual plant is thoroughly moist. It is important however, that they roots be able to breath.

That is one reason why I have frequantly used regular pieces of wood for mounts and allowed the roots to do what they needed to do. I have some stuff mounted on cork but I also have a Bulbophyllum mounted on a piece of Bald Cypress knee. There are several other rambling Bulbophyllums mounted on pieces of fresh water drift wood I got out of the Delaware River.

When I mount an orchid I try to find a mount that suits the growth habit of the plant. If it is a large rambler with shallow roots some of the pieces I have found have been perfect for them. A small plant like that may go well on a piece of cork or a piece of tree fern if it likes to be on the dryer side. Before I mount a plant I research the plant, it's growth & flower habit and it's needs for water, fertilizer & rest.

Certainly a greenhouse would make a difference over having mounted plants inside your house. It is rather difficult to grow mounted plants inside the house unless you have an environment where you can have some kind of control over the humidity.

No...I learned my lesson for dunking my orchids all in the same water...lol. What I do is fill individual containers and I remember what orchid goes in what container and I reuse the water with that same orchid for a couple of days. It isn't possible for me to dunk just the roots as I have to dunk at least half the mount just to get all the roots.... Do you recommend something to spray with? My hand cramps from using the 32oz sprayer bottles sold in strores? What do others use?

I use the sprayers myself. But then I have a strong hand

I use one called Flora Mist (I think)... just pump it up then twist a knob and the air pressure pushes out a very fine mist. Really easy to use... and wasn't too expensive. If you can't find a site, I will go through my info and see if I can find where I got it.

Portable Misters

Check those out, I think I have the 10oz pump. Works great, but I would of gotten a larger one - less filling up.

Thanks a bunch for the recommendation! I could just see my self now spraying down all the mounted 'chids in my orchidariums..lol.
