How do you all water your mounted plants? If you have a misting system, is that sufficient? I mean, assuming the same basic premise of air + moisture is true for potted plants vs. hanging; meaning just that I would never pot normal plants with sphagnum because it retains too much moisture, and I would not eliminate the medium as it would be difficult to keep the moisture up.
Like it seems like mounting, although lovely, would be exceptionally difficult to maintain adequete moisture and fertilizer... Most of the mounted orchids I have seen over time haven't looked very happy... just whithered little sticks on a branch...
Not that you all's don't look good, on the contrary, they're quite the opposite of what I'm used to seeing, so I wonder how you all keep the plants in tip top shape like you do under such difficult conditions...
What's the fertilizer regime? what level of dissolved solids are you using for regular watering? What frequency of watering vs. just "misting" the entire tank etc... do you use?
I'm all for mounting, they look spectacular. Is it possible to mount large vandaceous plants? Like I'd rather "mount" on epiweb or similar driftwood than a basket, but concerned I won't be able to find a sufficiently large mount for some of these vandas... Cheers to mounts!
I think I'll order some epiweb from Ray to start mounting/hanging in my new tank this next week...

I have a number of plants mounted on EpiWeb. I bought the largest piece available and cut it to the size I need as I go along.
Ross, your mounts look GREAT!!!  I have to look for that moss to see if it'll work for me...thanks
I hadn't seen this thread prior to this morning  but once I did, I went out and took some pics. We had a cold night last night so all the chids are in the room and it's a little chaotic...I'm posting ten pics here but there are more in my gallery.
Here in Florida, they get misted every day most of the year. In the cooler months, I can skip a day. I do have a large Rhynchovanda mounted to a piece of cork but didn't take a picture of it...anything is possible 
You can be very creative when it comes to mounting. We always have an eye out for anything that would work as a mount

Happy looking plants Sue! Is that a P. Shilly in the last picture? In spike??!!! Close up Pretty Please. Mine is to young but 'someday'..
I only have 6 plants mounted on cork, they are species Phals. and I take them to the sink early in the morning to water. Once a day seems to be enough for right now but I do check in the early afternoon to be sure everyone is o.k.

No, Al...those are Phal stuartiana. There's a single one on one mount and three on the other.
I'll post pics as soon as they bloom...I can't wait!!!  They have a number of branches on each spike!

I have a good number of mounted plants. Most of them are Bulbophyllums and Dendrobiums. In general they thrive. All they need is to be watered daily with a weak fertilizer solution during their growing season (spring & summer) and with the Dendrobiums given rest if needed and they flower. Two of my mounted orchids were actually used by Waldor Orchids in their Philadelphia Flower Show exhibit this year. One was flowering and the other was just used as a very cool looking foliage plant that fit right in with the theme.
I have a Dendrobium aggregatum that just has a metal hanger pushed through the clump. There are practically no roots. It grows and flowers every year for me. In 2007 it was especially prolific. It has been a bit more difficult w/o a greenhouse this winter, but that will be remedied very soon.
