Yep..I took it of another mount that needed to be redone. Perfect fit, I just shoved it into a tight spot. Waste not..want not!

Thanks for bringing this up cause I missed it the first time. I Love the Buddha belly I wish I had some in the ground, in a pot, as a mount, yes even with green eggs and ham. I wouldn't have cut it but what you did with it was ingenious and very impressive.

While visiting La Jolla a couple weeks ago I found Custom Aquatics Custom Aquatic Saltwater and Freshwater Aquarium Supplies and paid them a visit. Custom Aquatics? They happen to have Malaysian Driftwood that is sold for use in aquariums...sitting in water...no brainer..no rot Hmmm. I dug through the broken pallet and found these lighter, branchier pieces and bought the 5 large pieces you see. The smaller ones were found at the bottom of the pallet..to small to sell but plenty big for orchid mounts. Each piece was 16.99 + shipping. Well worth it to me since these guys would not fit in my carry on luggage. I did however bring some other pieces that did fit with me. Fast forward to yesterday. I called a friend asking if she wanted to visit a Bamboo Nursery..Of course! Bamboo poles are nearly impossible to find but Palm Beach Bamboo Nursery in Loxahachee Fl had what I needed plus this really cool Budda Belly Bamboo pole with the branches still on it. Pack em up...er tie that bad boy up there, shove Budda in the back and through to the dashboard and Garmin take me home.

I will entertain suggestions for cutting the 10' X 5" round pole & I'm inclined to put Budda in a concrete pot and trim off the brittle twigs then start mounting. 2 of the driftwood pieces will fit together and make one taller interesting mount. What say yee??

Well , Thanks for the information. You are lucky to buy drift wood pieces. These drift woods are freely available
here. We call them Kumbuk roots and grown near river banks and it makes water cool. . But why you call that Buddha belly bamboos? Is it a trade name or trade mark? May be the color of it? Or these bamboo bellies are quite thin when you compare it with other tree trunks.
I got shocked to read that. According to my knowledge The Lord Buddha is the most handsome personality in the whole world . Not like this thin bamboo . We got Bamboo jungles
here . If you appreciate I can ship them to you. We use this
wood to make platforms and houses . Yes these wood can be kept for a longer period of time if you protect them from water or damp.

Hi thankshila,

I really don't know how this particular bamboo got it's name except that it is not straight and thin. At each segment the bamboo bulges out, giving it a belly look. Here is a closer look at the bottom of the one I have. If you have this bamboo growing there and it has a different name I sure would like to know the real name. The grower and my friends only know it as "Budda Belly Bamboo".

There are two varieties that are called Buddha Belly here in south Florida, And yes, it is because of the swollen sections. I have one that is about seven years old, the sections are two inches long but very swollen.

Bambusa ventricosa

and

Bambusa vulgaris 'Wamin' (the true dwarf budda belly)

[EDIT] You have to stress the ventricosa to get it to bulge. By stress, it means starve it of water.

I recommend getting the "Wamin" as it not only always bulges, but as a dwarf, will only go to 15', not 55' like ventricosa does.

Actually I am worried about the given title to the tree. This hearts my feelings badly. First time I heard this title .
Because Lord Buddha is the most kind, merciful and peace generator in this human world. Metta, Karuna Muditha and Uppekha is and was his lordships mottoes .
I can't think why this tree is named after a philosopher's name. All, every Bhuddists' protest when they come to know such job.
I think because of ignorance some one has given the name. Excuse me Lorraine if you get heart too. Some merchants use this title as a trade mark too.

Huh? Every see a Buddha statue? The dude had a ginormous belly, hence why these got their name. I seriously doubt it was named to dis Buddha.

Yes the true name should be Bambusa . I live far away from Florida.
Otherwise I go to that place personally and call them to stop it.
It is not reasonable otherwise.
Actually it is not Lord Bhudda's belly looks like that but only his robe. Its a sin to compare with his Lordship. I am worried about it only.
And this is not the first time I am speaking about a religious matter.
