Default sheet moss [mosser lee] stinks like algae/fish...

I got some Mosser Lee Sheet moss to use at the bottom of a basket and some pieces on mounts.
it feels a lot crisper than sphagnum moss [ which is what I wanted and I could not find either at HD nor at Lowes].

now when it is wet it has this really bad musky/ algae / fishy smell. is it bad? I want to take it off and return the rest of the package.
wonder if it is normal or if i may have bought some gone bad.should I boil it?
any experience advice?
since I keep mostorchids in my deroom I don't want something so stinky.
thanks
stefano

I've been using that same brand for more than a year and I've never noticed a smell. More to the point, my better half hasn't said anything either.
If you notice, most of the bags have a fold up type slip near the edge, so I would just open it up in the store and give it a sniff.
