Default Volcanic Rock good for mounting?

Hi everyone I have a chunk of volcanic rock with a hole drilled in the middle. I purchased it with a tropical type plant in it but it died. I cleaned out the old plant and I was wondering if this rock would be a good candidate for an orchid mounted on it? If so what type of orchid would you all recommend and would you us the same mounting materials such as moss and fishing line?

Thanks Sheridan

It should work great. Lava is very porous and mounting would probably be the same as with wood. Lots of people mount orchids on the lava rock here in Hawaii as a landscaping thing. No reason why it shouldn't work in Oregon!

Thanks Steve since its kinda gloomy here today I think I will spend some time in the GH....That always cheers me up. I was thinking of mounting a Tolumnia or something small that that. What do you think?
