Terracotta birdball

they are unglazed spheres that are used as bird houses, i want one soooo bad to grow an orchid on. I have a nice short Promenaea that really wants to spread and i think will do way better mounted if i can get it enough water. since it likes to spread so quickly, i could really end up with a whole ball of it!!!

Looks interesting. Of course it is all about the porosity, but I'm going to contact them and see what they have.
Now I was hoping for something slip cast because that is usually a lot thinner wall and more likely to be evenly porous. and I'm a bit of a geometry snob and really want a full true sphere. The plant I eat to put on it is pretty uniform and short, so I figure in the long run it will take on the shape of the pot pretty well.

This is something I just started experimenting with. You can fill the clay pot with water and it will slowly seep through the porous clay over 4 - 5 days. The one I have is the 1/2 gallon round model. I haven't had it long enough to evaluate yet.

yeah those are great and i was going to get a few and play with them too. i was just loving the visual modern geometry of those bird feeders.

i do all s/h and show blooming plants in special glass vases i collect just for he ovation, apothecary jars and wonderful pieces all picked to fit the inner containers i use for the s/h.
now i have been thinking a lot on mounts as art, the whole thing like a sculpture. im not big personally on the "natural look" i know, dorky seeing as im growing plants

They have a small flat bottom so it can sit on a table without falling over. I sometimes use pot-feet also (google and look at images). If you use them indoors you'll need to put something under it because water drips off it.

I haven't seen one as well done as the one you posted. It looks like it has very thin walls...Hard to know without holding it and pinching the walls. Etsy.com has slip cast artisans.
