Just Mounted two of my Neo's

Well this morning I decided to mount two of my Neo's that I fill I have been having problems with. These are the two I purchased off of ebay around February. The two from New World Orchids I do not seem to be having problems with. The moss seems to be wrapped much tighter from New World Orchids and they seem to dry out a little faster. The other's from ebay came potted the same traditional method, but the moss was very loose and seemed to hold more water and take longer to dry out. I started noticing a few tips starting to turn brown on some new leaves and some of the roots weren't looking so happy even though they do have some healthy roots on them, so I trimmed off the bad roots that were rotted and decided to mount them on cork slabs. So what does everyone think, did I use to much moss on these two mounts? Are the mounts going to be big enough for the plant it's self? Let me have it even if it isn't good, if I used to much moss I will redo it, I want them to be happy! TIA!

The mounts look very good, it's hard to tell if it's to much moss,that depends on your watering and air circulation.
This is a picture of my mount, it does not have as much moss, but I mist twice a day and have constant air circulation. It's growing in my orchidarium under T5 lights
I removed it to take the picture and set it on a extra Bonsia dish.

It might seem like a lot of moss but I see root tips sticking out so I think you've done a great job

On the opposite end of the spectrum, I have a friend of mine that grow his bare root like vandas....he has a speciman size that has grown so large, you can't see the plastic basket he started it in about 8 years ago....

Isn't it funny how the same plant can grow well under COMPLETELY different conditions...I think that's what I love about this forum the most..the diversity

Sorry I can't contribute anything useful. I have 3 neos all potted up with the traditional method as I was told "not to mess with tradition". One of yours looks like it has the sanhan type variegation. Can't really tell from the pic what type of tsuke it has but overall it looks very cool! What is the name of that one?

Well the picture of the first one is the one I am most worried about having two much moss. The root tip you see is actually towards the top of the mount. I tried covering all the roots so they would stay moist. I am interested in trying to grow this bare root like a vanda, but I could only mist/water once a day and I am afraid that would not be enough even thought my humidity is high in my orchidarium.

The picture of the second one is a Rainnohikari. Linh, what does sanhan mean?

Oh, that's a Rain no Hikari? It's lovely! San-fu just refers to the type of foliage variegation. It's classified as a "spread pattern".

How did I miss this thread?! Becca, your Neos look lovely mounted. I can just picture them now with their flower spikes sticking out all around them!

Thanks for pointing me at this thread. Would you be willing to have it moved into the new Neo forum? Or would you rather keep it here with the mounts?

Hi! Let's move it to the Neo section! I know they look so healthy here....but I think sometimes the pictures can be deceiving....I had mounted them due to me rotting the roots some how....I didn't think I was keeping them that wet really and I was told they should dry out...but I have read conflicting info and everyone has different growing conditions.....I think my problems I mentioned in a different thread may be due to the temps and the roots rotting...but they still have several healthy roots...I just need to be patient with them adjusting to their new home....part of me wishes I could put them back in their moss ball with the hole in the middle....but I have tried creating one of those and it isn't easy...lol.
