Default Orchid Ball Update

Many members responded to this project and requested updates. The original post was listed as Orchid Ball in the Outdoor Gardening section. Maybe an OB Administrator could move it to the Orchid Mount section. Anyway, here are some fresh photos depicting the progress. I began rotating the ball on it's stand every day after noticing an uneven growth pattern. It seems to be doing well and has sent a few fresh roots into the EpiWeb.

What a great looking "orchid ball". The first thing I thought about when I saw this was a bouy, no matter what the support is its great looking.

I agree. This should be a really nice display when it fills in.

I don't do most Dendros or large, "floofy orchids". For me it's minis (like Angraecoides), Paphs, and others that crept in somewhere along the line. See my orchid list for complete collection (usually not current.)

Junebug I move the Grapevine ball thread to Growing on Mounts forum.
Is that the one you were referring to ?
( I hope )

Yes it was. Thank you Dorothy. I'll try to be more observant next time.

That is a really great idea for mounting. What did you use for the inside material? Your chids seem to like it.

I wanted a stable media that wouldn't decompose and chose to use chunks of EpiWeb. This is my first experience using this product and I'm really impressed. The ball was purchased at a Ross department store. It has either grapevine or some form of rattan that is woven around a very sturdy wire support. I'm just hoping when the wire and vine decompose that the plant will have enough self supporting root structure to keep the Epi in place. The stand was purchased separately, in another area of the same store, and may have been designed to hold some sort of garden globe. It has the perfect curved shape and diameter to receive the base of the ball. I expect that the stand will deteriorate in a few years. After it does I plan to suspend the ball from a hook.
