During the growth stage, but also during the root forming stage. Wait until you see the roots about to burst out. If you mount after they come out, you will break them and before can sometimes shock the plant.

Hi Aaron, I have mounted at least 1 orchid each and every month of the year and have not lost one yet (knock on wood). Orchids are hardy and as long as you know that it takes more water when they are mounted then I don't think you will have any problems. Good luck and keep us informed on how they do.

Hi Lorraine, I was lucky to find these pieces, most of them were acquired when FPL was replacing Elect. Poles and they cleared a area along the road side on highway 29. I asked them if I could take some and they said that it was going to picked up and taken to a compost facility and I could take all I wanted. Unfortunately I don't know of any one place to get it.

I was very excited last night and noticed that one of me first mounts, a NOID Dendrobium, was thoroughly bonded to its cork bark. I cut off all the fishing line and that sucker is stuck tight. I wish the others in my collection were so cooperative.
