The image is of what we are screwing hot & shade house together with. We call the screws 4 inch batten screws with a inverted hex head. The drill has a hex head driver in it. This is the easiest way to put screws into timber. A pilot hole that is a smaller diameter, drill bit is used to help the screw going into the timber without splitting the timber. There is an image of this below!

Our posts are at 4 foot centers with 4 inch x 3 inch x 8 foot high with 2 foot into the ground. We have post that are 3 inch x 11/2 inch in the middle of the larger posts.

All other timber is 3 inch x 11/2 inch. All timber is treated for termites & rot proof. The timber type is a heavy pine with small knots that has no structural rating.

You have inspired me! Thank You!

Have had a lot of wet days. Put in a lot of noggins between the roof joists around the kitchen windows for hanging baskets and that was very slow and painful work trying to twist and turn around that area.

Have got over that hard area and have some shade cloth up on the roof now. Not ready for pic yet but soon will.

Have decided to build a hot house elsewhere and turn the whole thing into a shade house. The nature of the hot house cloth is not going to bend around the curves of the off angle structure. Shade cloth is so forgiving when you put it up into place but that hot house cloth will not be and turn into a real mess.

One thing about doing things slowly is you get a lot of time to think about it all!

Great idea to combine a fence a shade house. Looks like it will be a really great space.
