I get to start stocking the shelves again ..shade cloth is 60%. More cloth next time. Im going to encase it in shade cloth. The sun is brutal out there.

eeek we see what happens next

you can see from the views how much sun gets blocked by 60% shade.

I think its going to need Air conditioning and a swamp cooler and some fans and a misting system and and and and and...it never ends.. If it did I could say I was done. I just getting started

RJ, you have the patience of Job with all you've been going through with building and hail and repeated moving etc. Do you get to stay at this location for a longer term? You may need to look into building the greenhouse on a trailer bed for mobility.

'Job like' . I am humbled by the compliment Jay.

I really enjoy doing all these things with the plants. Indeed there have been setbacks and each time I come back better and stronger. Its a pain moving this stuff but if I didn't love it I wouldn't do it. Sometimes Love hurts.
This build is home for awhile. My sister let me come stay with her until I get enough money together for a down payment on my own home. I'm done moving for some time. We figured a few years or so to give me a break from spending all I make on renting. I can pay a note just cant save up enough paying 1000 a month for rent + utilities. So I save it up and I'll have my own place instead of paying everyone else's bills.

Im looking for a big back yard with a frog pond .. Why a frog pond? Always need frogs around to tell you how deep you are into it..kneedeep kneedeep kneedeep

Lol, I should share some of our pacific tree frogs. Our neighbor's pool is breeding those and they jump into our clean pool for the party every night.. They are really cute but there are so many of them, it is deafening at times.

Anyway, I was wondering how your greenhouse is going.. Mine is doing good. I had to pull all my phals out though as it was too sunny for those. But few oncidiums put out spikes - 4 spikes on one of them
Did you ever install misters? I have simple orbit misters hooked up to a water hose on a water timer. It wasn't too expensive.

Is the shade cloth heavy enough? It looks like a neat little house!

I have my whole western wall in 70% shade cloth cut to fit, and clamped on the framing with those little metal strong clamps...here in nc....and I cover to top with a 60% cloth over the whole shebang, and an additional piece of 30% under the top cloth, in position to give additional shade to the slippers and phals......shading is an art, lol...I imagine in texas its even trickier....looking good! gl

well hi yawl

The 60% shade cloth been replaced with 70% cloth. I have almost direct overhead sun all day long. I could get away with 60 or even 50% when the sun gets off my back and the earth rotates some for the seasonal change. Thank goodness Its almost totally encased in cloth as I have custom cut one of them to fit the back panels. I glued pieces down with spray adhesive on the front. Any direct sun that hits these plants will turn them to black mush pretty fast. Within minutes it will fry them.

I have all my orchids in the hothouse. Phals included. They stay sopping wet in green horrible looking goopy moss and burn all day long and they love it!!! Phals are tropical plants and dont like your conditions in the home as much as is reported. They much prefer from what I see 100 degree daytime temps, soaking wet with 60-75% humidity. Still dont let water sit in the leaves.

No misters as Im the Mister. Twice a day at least just hose them down some. Watering every other day and when I water I water them and flood the whole damn yard.

All the catts are busting out sheaths all the vandas are growing like weeds. I dont have anything to show right now bec its not time for them to be blooming. They just setting the sheaths up.

I havent taken many pictures lately bec my camera is just not enough for me. Makes me very unhappy. I want a new one already. I just cant take good pictures with it anymore. I dont know whats wrong. The pictures just suck.

But Im pretty happy with most everything in the hothouse for the moment. Which is unusual for me being happy

even happier are the Texas chorus frogs .
. Its Frog music!!!

Hi RJ,
Just wondering if you are planning to do anything to winterize your greenhouse. I suppose the temps in your area are still mild but we are starting to dip into low 40s at night. I am thinking of insulating my GH with large bubble wrap to retain some heat. I am also going to seal all small cracks with "Great Stuff" insulating foam. I would love to use a portable electric heater but it is not an option as we don't have power outside and putting one in requires permits and such. Hubby wouldn't like the idea of gas powered heater either. I am filling as many gallon jugs of water as I can get to use it as "solar" heating but realistically I would need about 300 gallons of water to have any impact on the temps in the GH. Not very practical as my GH is very small.
What are you going to do with your GH in winter?

WOW. Your greenhouse looks great! Hopefully you will have quite the show of flowers soon, when the season is right. Definitely post pictures when it does. So jealous!!
