Default Dream Greenhouse

While in Western NY a few weeks ago, I had the opportunity to discuss greenhouses with my wife's cousin. A little background - he's a trained agronomist (Cornel U.) that has a HUGE operation in Chautauqua NY selling hanging baskets, fruit and veggies, etc. at his own "stand" (it's a farm market ) He has many greenhouses (like about 10, I think) that are each bigger than your wildest dreams. I discussed my never-ending quest to one day own another greenhouse (I owned one in southern Oregon in the late 60's) and he was on me incessantly, that he had one lined up that I could get for a "song". Not sure what that means, because my songs end abruptly and are short . Anyways here is what he is talking about:

What do y'all think? Could a person grow some serious orchids here or not By the way, those are sliding plant tables!

I don't do most Dendros or large, "floofy orchids". For me it's minis (like Angraecoides), Paphs, and others that crept in somewhere along the line. See my orchid list for complete collection (usually not current.)

The costs for utilities would be the largest concern...

Oh wow! Think of all the orchids you could cram in there! Your very own tropical jungle. No need to spend money anymore going to exotic vacation destinations when you can just go to your backyard! You lucky ducky!! It's just going to cost alot of money to heat that monster.

Ha! That greenhouse reminds me of the offer I got for a Cheaspeake Bay Skipjack sailboat that was beached. The owner said I could have it for free. The cost to get it seaworthy again was about $150,000.

Boy what a guy!

Cheers.
Jim
