Hi Lucky, I wish I could take credit for that plant on the floor but it belongs to Safet. I think it was just for the Pictue.

Vanillas are cool plants. I took this photo in a green house nearby. It looks like an easy plant to grow.

Smile My vanilla

Here is my little baby - I bought it at about 12 inches and it has grown 2 ft since April.
If you notice, I only have it in a 2.5 inch pot
I finally got a nice big pot and medium to transplant it into.
I intend to get U-shaped bamboo canes for support twisting the vine up and down as it continues to grow.

Dorothy:
What is the humidity like where your vanilla is? I am trying to pinpoint exactly what I am doing wrong. I literally have had a 2 inch cutting since Feb. and it has not grown one inch...

Well I keep it in dappled light - western afternoon exposure .. humidity goes from 50 - 80% (sometimes higher) ... as the cooler weather approaches my humidity will be dropping as I am in the northeast and I am growing indoors. I water it like a catt .. 4-6 days depending on the temps and humidity .. and I fertilize and feed each time with a water flush once a month. I use filtered water now but it grew when I was using tap.
I hope this helps ..
What kind of medium do you have it growing in? .. mine at this time, is in a fine bark ..

Thanks Dorothy! Mine is currently potted in AV mix, it was in sphag moss (bad). It started off inside, I moved it outside, then back inside. As soon as I get the Greenhouse fixed up maybe I will try it out there. Eventually I will find somewhere it will grow. Maybe in the mean time I will cheat and get another cutting. I think mine may be defective

Hold on to it! .. They seem to be very hardy .. I bet all it needs is a place it can call it's own. Once it's settled, I am sure it will take off!
