Default My second pergola is started...

I set the bamboo poles with cement last weekend and will be framing out the top super structure this weekend. No shade cloth will be needed since it is under two large coconut palms.

Awesome!
I love that you used bamboo!
Bamboo is actually a grass and the fast growing plant on Earth!

Thanks for the compliments Dorothy.

Here are pics of the super structure framed out. I used threaded rod 3/8" thick with a nut, lock washer, and fender washer. Once the rod was secured, I cut the excess off using a sawzall. This left the hardware sticking out to a minimum. When complete, it will be all hidden with hemp rope.

Well, I can't wait to see this structure finished! I have to admit I'm a little jealous since winter is well on it's way here. I'm having to think of ways to bundle up and heat my greenhouse and you're building a pergola!!!

If my orchids see this they'll be packing their pots and hitching to Florida!!!

You guys crack me up...

I have about 10 1" to 1 1/2" canes cut for the top, but I need about 20. That and some are too green to use.

When the top is finished, I'll decide what I'm gonna do with the sides/front/back. Currently I'm thinking of PT trellis cover both side, just from the fence up in the back, and maybe 2' down from the top, in the front.

I would rather do it all with bamboo, so if someone in the Broward/Miami Dade/Palm Beach are has about 200 1" canes about 5' long, give me a holler. Will cut it down if needed.
