I stopped poking at this thread bc I did not want to depress WW any further.

It’s august now, these clowns all said they were free but still no quotes. I’d be livid

DC. Yes, I always thought Janco had great looking residential greenhouses. Re the contractors, maybe because interest rates are so low and residential building/ Renovations are in such demand the contractors are too busy for smaller ...but no less important...jobs. All depends on what the local RE market is I guess. Sometimes you gotta wait it out til contractors hit leaner times to make it worthwhile for them.

It's not just contractors. I've had the same problem with tree trimmers.

A year ago woodpeckers tore up about 20% of the edge of my foam roof. Foam roofs work incredibly well in a low-rainfall climate and are great insulation. I couldn't find any roofers who would repair it. They were willing to replace the entire roof. So I had to learn how to clean, prep, foam and resurface a foam roof. The people at the roofing supply company told me what to do.

Similarly, right now I'm working on my kitchen sink cabinet. Contractors said they are willing to completely redo my kitchen, but not fix the rotted wood under the sink. I'm learning how to do that, too. Fortunately I have a friend who owned a lot of rental properties, and fixed everything himself.

Necessity is the mother of a lot more than just invention!

Has anyone ever had experience with these? They seem like fine quality residential type greenhouses with a long history in business. I am also weighing idea of stick built sunroom vs. actual lean to greenhouse.
I looked at them briefly, as I have just about every greenhouse kit place imaginable at this point. One of the things that turns me off about some websites is the ability to know the base cost of a kit without filling out a form. So this place, as several others, got the bypass. No desire to be inundated with emails and/or phone calls. I just want a base price.

After doing tons of research, I think stick built is easily cheaper IF one finds the right contractor. And having purchased kit greenhouses in the past, will be better built overall.

For me, I continue to wait. The one I want will require a structural attachment to my house. I don't want an unqualified person attaching ledgers to my home, or installing a door where a window used to be.

As estacion seca says... sometimes one has to just go for it and DIY. My problem is that I know how to do it, but no longer have the physical capabilities of doing it.

And yes, construction/renovation is a booming business right now, as is real estate. Makes it even tougher to get a qualified individual.

PS And DC, poke away. I can take it. Maybe you're just scared of the poke back. The son in law actually is talking about getting together with his buddy and doing this. And now that I've asked him, I'm feeling too guilty about taking him from his busy life... not sure I can follow through.

LOL.

i NEED that slap fight emoji!

I think you need to just get gritty, fake a knee sprain and let them do it in two weekends (the sprain is just for the sympathy heh heh heh) they do foundation and the structural attachments to the house on the first weekend, breach the house and do the door and the top cover on the second weekend....craft beer time!

Would you care to come be the overwatch? Actually, my SIL is a master brewsman. Has a three tap oak/ebony inlaid bar in his dining room made from a freezer he modified. It was a masterful build, with like 14 coats of shellac and poly. I'm seriously not sure when either he or my daughter sleep...
