AOS
An acronym formed from the initial letters of the American Orchid Society, the American authority on orchid standards and judging. Often used when disignating awards a particular orchid cultivar has received.

Example:
Blc. Mem. Crispin Rosales 'Carmela' AM/AOS - the cultivar 'Carmela' was awarded an AM (Award of Merit) by the AOS.

The same acronym system is used to indicate the majority of orchid societies around the world.
