Thu, 01 Oct 2009 14:43:08 GMTBelow are the final picks for the 2010 Orchid Board Calendar. If you do not see your photo here, it's probably because it was either not in perfect focus or it didn't meet the resolution requirements, or it was not really a calendar material.
I have to say that this year was the first year that we didn't get a ton of undersized photos!!! :cheer:
Once again, just a reminder that for next year's contest, please be sure to shoot photos with the maximum resolution that the camera will allow. Remember, you can always reduce the photos, you can't enlarge them and still have a print quality image.
Job at hand - We have to select 13 photos that will make the calendar.
how to vote?
Take a pencil and write down 13 of your favorite photos, then vote for them! Easy!
RULES:
1. Vote for your favorites. Top 13 pics make the calendar. Top favorite makes the cover
2. Feel free to invite your friends to vote on this contest, however telling them to vote specifically for your photo will get you disqualified. Links to this thread will show up at the bottom, so please no funny stuff.
3. Top 3 get a free calendar shipped to them.
4. In case of a tie, to simplify matters, I will make the final selection.
5. Voting will close in 7 days.

The 2009 Was great and many of our members still have these calendars in use.
2010 Calendar will consist of 13 images (1 cover and 12 for individual months). All proceeds will go toward supporting OB.
This was the cover of our 2009 Calendar:
Each photo will be captioned with the scientific name of the orchid and the name/username of the person who took the photo.
Deadline: Sun Sept 28th, 2009 at midnight
Prizes:
In an effort to raise some funds for OB, Top 3 voted images will receive copies of the calendar.
You may post a sized version (not larger then 640px in width) of your image in this thread for all to see. I will select the final choices and we will vote for the cover and the 12 images together. This is always very hard.
Contest rules.
1. Images must be submitted unsized and at maximum available resolution. The requirements are
11.5 x 9 in. (trimmed on calendar to 11 x 8.5 in.) at 200dpi. This translates to an image 2300x1800 at 200dpi
In other words the bigger the better. (template here) If needed I will size the images, please don't do it yourself. Send the original files.
2. Orientation of the Image must be 'landscape'. Portrait entries will not be considered. (See example here)
3. Once you submit an image you give orchid board the right to manipulate it/size it/crop it and alter it in any way we want in order to use it, and also re-use the image at a later time in conjunction with other Orchid Board activities.
4. Submitted image must be your own work. Plant does not have to be from your own collection. Use of other or copyrighted material will result in immediate disqualification
5. When you submit the photos please be sure to include the following information. Scientific Name:
Your Real Name:
Your OrchidBoard username:
6. 1 photo per member. Select your best entry and do not send more then 1 image. Previously we allowed more photos, but lets give equal chances to everyone this time
7. Please make sure the photos are free of any watermarks or text.

I am posting some pictures of a Cirropetalum flabellum-veneris (which, according to Orchidwiz is known as Bulbophyllum lepidum)...the first person to guess closest as to how many inflorescences the plant will produce by October 31, 2009 will have a donation to Orchidboard made in their name!

However, I have kept the old ones, except those that are damaged. I am wondering what should I do with these stuff, since I don't think that nurseries here will buy back the old pots.

Over the years, however, I have found that from time to time temptation or ignorance has led me to try plants I have little chance of blooming and sometimes not even good odds of keeping alive. For example, this lil fella that I aquired via a trade -- will I be able to bloom it? I'm not even sure I'll be able to keep it alive. But the lil devil was just so cute!....
So here's the question ... how much do you like to "push the envelope"?
