Lc. Tokyo Magic x Slc. Tangerine Imp, Phalaenopsis Timothy Christopher, and project plant from summer 2010, Maxillaria tenuifolia.

the Catt I cant take credit for the bloom because I bought this in bloom from Fishing Creek Orchids. But its so cute i have to share! I bought this to use in a corsage for my date to prom, i think the corsage came out awesome! My date loved it!

The Phal ive had since late last summer. i got it out of bloom from the grocery store for $0.50!!! my cheapest non-free plant! and guess what! its one of my favorites! is so cute! the leaves are only 3"!!

and lastly, the Max! I got this in summer of 2010 and have never bloomed it, its a huge healthy plant, but this is the first time ive bloomed or smelled it! it smells amazing! just like coconut, and its SO strong!!

I've been playing around with an effect that lets you color just one portion of the photo. Kinda cheesy, but on the other hand it focuses attention on the bloom. I grow this one I/W, mounted on a 3" chunk of wood, sprayed daily. Easy grower and bloomer. Flowers seem more red than other examples I've seen of this species. -Stephen

The small ones, one just has the one bloom open so far, the other none yet.

This has been a reliable bloomer for me, and quite undemanding.

Small blooms, but nice clusters of them - and the colors are fabulous!

I didn't know if they were big enough to bloom, and have not grown this type before so wasn't sure about the winter rest. These both lost a leaf here and there late summer/early fall, but didn't see a major leaf drop in fall, so I continued water and fertilizer, tho less of both with the cooler weather, shorter days.

Some time around mid-late December I noticed nodes beginning to swell. I started water and fertilizer rest at that point, but figuring it was now too late. The spot where I have been growing this doesn't receive much light in winter either. I watched the nubs grow unable to tell if they were keikis or spikes, but figuring they must be keikis. So imagine my surprise when I notice buds developing!

One or two nubs did not develop at all, and I lost a bud at some point, but all in all I am quite tickled that it's blooming! :biggrin:

It's been blooming for almost a year now. I inherited it when she died in January. It's waaaaaay outgrown for the pot, but it won't stop blooming so I can bet a digger pot. Hope you enjoy! It was sprayed with miticide and survived. Sadly emersonii bud did rot. I figured they weren't going to get better, so am pleasantly surprised by this blooming.

First bloom, color is more vivid than it appears in the photo.
Second bloom - color isn't great, but it's opened fully, which I am very happy about.

This had some rot on a couple of growths late last year, I cut off the affected foliage - one of those now has a spike with a couple of buds on it, a month or so away from blooming.

This has been an easy grower and bloomer for me, is a nice compact size, and has a very nice fragrance.

I love this 'little' plant! (small in stature, but has become quite bushy - getting hard to manage on my small windowsills despite only being in a 4 inch pot!)
Blooms great every year! Gets a lot of little 'nodding' blooms. Blooms on previously bloomed canes, and blooms last a long time!

(spots on foliage are damage from a spray I used last year *sigh* especially upsetting to me as previously was one of my few orchids with almost pristine foliage; looks better than it did, as the most damaged leaves have fallen off)

Please excuse some very poor photographs - I tried getting some pix to show as many blooms as possible, and I either ended up cutting off some, or getting blurry pix :p

I have a hard time getting the flower spikes propped up. After a while the stakes seem to get pulled down.

1: I've had this one for a while now and it's the only one of the noid Phals that I bought in bloom. I've dubbed him Mr. Floppy Pants because he likes to flop over the side of the pot with his big leaves. He's been a very healthy Phal.

2. This one came in a pot with another noid Phal that has a spike that should bloom soon.

3. This is the most recent addition and has the smallest flowers of the three, but it was also in a spot that wasn't getting as much light for a long time.

It's currently in a two gallon pot maybe ? (It's definitely smaller than three gallons) Nine (!) spikes on this, tho a couple are smallish. It's been out in the rain while in bud, so there's so some marking on the buds and blooms, not too bad tho.

All my NOID phals bloomed around the same time (after moving them to my cooler bedroom two months ago).

First time blooming for the two Epis. I'm completely in love with the Epi. Pseudepidendrum!

The NOID Onc. rebloomed for the first time this year, and was hard to take a photo of. It actually bloomed in March and I am just getting around to posting the picture now.

The Den. Christmas Chime is a new addition that I picked up in bud at the London Orchid show in March.

This Phal NoID has been in bloom for a few weeks or so, and it is so neat to be able to compare the colour of the older blooms to that of the new ones!

I spent a good amount of time trying to get a decent pictures of the flowers to catch the colour, but gave up and blamed it on the dumb point and shoot camera. This is a close to real colour that I got it.

Here is my cute little Onc. Gold Dust (yes, I have more than just Phals ;)) that has been in bloom for a few weeks also. It took nearly two months for the buds to open from the first sign of a spike. I did pollinate one flower with pollen from Onc. orynthorynchum (sp?) 'Lilac Soap' that I got from a friend, but it looks like it didn't work. This picture is a few days old, today, the whole capsule looks quite yellow.

I bought a new seedling about a year ago that was mounted on a stick and is appears quite happy. This is the first flower spike.

I've got my eye on a solid lavender flowered one that I hope to pick up in a few weeks.

After a month of growing the spike, my oncidium intergenic is finally in full bloom.

I tried to make my first timelapse video of the spike growing here: Wilsonara Pacific Perspective Time-Lapse - YouTube

It's far from perfect, but I am quite pleased with the results as a first attempt. Lessons learned from the experience include:

Staking up the spike early on will prevent it drifting down over the field of view, or needing to rotate the photos to keep the spike in alignment
Even when the buds don't look like they're developing much... they can still be moving wildly around in relation to the stem
It can be difficult to predict which direction blooms will end up facing when they finally open
I should try to keep the background completely free of clutter to avoid random items moving in and out of the scene
when the flowers do begin to open, they can unfold over the course of only a couple of hours (and often inconveniently early in the morning)
If I try this again, I will be taking pictures with higher frequency

If anyone has any more tips on how to make a more polished looking timelapse of orchids, I'd love to hear suggestions. I do realize that the main thing I'd need is an automated shutter, but I'm trying to avoid purchasing any more equipment at the moment. Maybe in the future.

In the meantime, here are some more still photos of the blooms. The flowers are fragrant and 2.5" across on a foot-long spike. It's a stunted blooming, but the orchid is recovering from massive root loss, and I wasn't expecting any flowers this season at all. One of the things that really struck out at me about this orchid, is how different the flowers look based on the lighting used in the photograph.

Epidendrum radicans (endemic to Mexico all the way to Panama) possesses a low-lying, freely branching growth habit, producing roots along the length of the stem. Stems range from 4 inches to 2 feet in length, producing upright terminal 6- to 15-inch-tall spikes with up to 10 vivid, reddish-orange, 1-inch flowers that are open at any one time. The flowers open in succession over several months, with up to 40 flowers per inflorescence. It does well in full sun to partial shade. This species is tolerant of temperatures down to freezing. This grows readily in almost any setting, whether in a pot, mounted on a cork slab, or in raised flowerbeds outdoors, as climate permits. When fertilized regularly they respond immediately with denser flower spikes, greener, stronger leaves and more robust roots. Plants grown in lower light (such as inside in northern climates) need less nitrogen; high nitrogen fertilizer in low light will result in long, leggy, straggling growths. These orchids are generally forgiving of water frequency and quality. I make sure to water generously, letting water drain out of the bottom of the vessel, to prevent mineral buildup in the mix. I like to keep the roots moist year round, but, as for most of my orchids, I do not let the plant sit in water.

3 - No i.d.: only 2 spikes this year (had 5 or 6 last year), and also only 6-8 blooms per spike (and one had a severe ant issue, and in my attempts to get rid of the ants I lost a few buds :(( ) but, again, the blooms are nice :)

4 & 5 - No i.d.: 3 spikes, 2 have several open blooms with still some more buds yet to open, the 3rd spike not yet opening any.

Here are some of my spring blooms. Some of them shouldn't count as such because they started blooming in the fall, but they're still around, so I'm including them! I've been busy with school lately, and haven't been staking spikes like I normally do, so a lot of these were just allowed to grow straight towards the window. Doesn't make for the best photos, but I still enjoy them! Here's some more info:

1-NOID
2-Dtps Jiaho Kitty Face "Rainbow"
3-NOID (I can't take credit for these flowers, as they were a birthday gift this year and came in bloom)
4-NOID (It usually makes a ton of flowers, but the spike broke of early in it's growth, and this is what grew off of the node below the break. This is an old IKEA orchid.)
5-NOID (This is an old "Just Add Ice" orchid, actually!)
6-NOID (I kid you not, that spike has been flowering since May of last year. It just sent off a new branch, so it looks like it's still going strong. This is also an old IKEA plant.)
7-Paph Maudiae x Paph Black Jack
8-NOID (Just like #3, can't take credit for this because it was a gifted to me already in bloom)
9-Phal. Memoria Tom Finney 'Wally' (can only take partial credit as it was delivered to me in bud)

The first pic is the bloom from Dec 2010 and the second pic is this year's bloom (a little later because we kept the GH a little cooler this past winter).

I particularly like the white/cream stripe.

I got this one NBS three years ago - it dutifully bloomed the next spring, last spring, and now again, as well as 2-3 times through out the year last year. Previously it has had only had 1 spike with 2-3 blooms at a time, but right now has three blooming spikes on an older cane. I just spotted a tiny new spike on last year's cane today :)

Hard to capture the color - it's quite saturated, and varies with the light from reddish-purple to blue-purple.

It's an undemanding plant, but does like it's water very much ;)

Dal's Buddy 'Vaso' - AM/AOC, AD/AOC - Quite a substantial plant and I probably should have repotted it before it started flowering.......

C Lavender Ice x Lc Prophesy - 4 large flowers, the plant is growing well out of the pot and really should have been repotted by now.

Sc Dal's Good One x Blc Waianae Leopard - Deformed columns and pollen caps.......disgraceful really.
But wonderful colour and I will give it another chance.

I also wanted to show you the difference in colour between the "old" flowers and this new one. I know it's not fair to do so since the flowers do lose some of their colouration with time, but I can't recall the colour being as saturated and bright before, not even on the newly opened flowers (but on the other hand, me not remembering things from a month ago is like a Penguin not being able to fly - it's the natural state of being). :scratchhead:

The thing is, the first five flowers opened pre-"my fanatic orchid state of mind", and after the Phal was re-potted, the spike started growing again and developing new buds. So this is the first flower that has opened after I got bitten by the orchid bug. :biggrin:

So check it out! I even had to take a picture of the flower from behind, because the sepals has never had so much colour on them before (I think at least). Some of the pics were taken in direct sunlight and the others in plain daylight.

This Phal is very hard to photograph since I can't take pics of it when it's too overcast outside, due to me having a lousy camera that needs lots of daylight. Also, the camera loves to enhance some colours and neglect others which is why photos of this Phal demand a lot of colour adjustments on the computer afterwards. I have tried to get the colours as close to the real ones as possible, but this is on my computer screen. What it might look on yours I have no idea.

As you can see, the two newest flowers, which both developed after the chid had been re-potted, have much more yellow on the lip. I don't think it has ever had as much yellow before not even on the newly opened flowers since I bought it. It seems it really wanted some fertilizer. :biggrin:

I'm also very glad that the spike has started growing again after the re-potting. This means I have even more flowers to look forward to. And, yes, it is one of my favourites. :nod:

Oh, well. My little yellow buddy opened its second flower today (it started to open yesterday, but that doesn't count) and I think that's all from this fellow for some months now. It has never had as few flowers before, but that's what happens if you mistreat even Phals for too long. They might be sturdy, but they don't put up with just anything.

I'm so happy it's blooming again though since it has been a while since and its yellow flowers really light up the entire windowsill! :blushing:

It has a second spike lurking at its base, but it'll take some time before there will be any flowers on it.

They just recently started getting in phal types that are registered so I stopped in today.

Saw this beauty there. Its in a glass container so its getting repot ASAP.

It has 1 spike, 3 branches, 20 buds, 6 flowers and a basal keiki. It seems like a happy plant. All in all not a bad buy for $5.

All the diligent watering and fertilizing seems to be paying off.

Still a few to bloom yet -- my Sara Gold and Sogo Grape, with two spikes each -- but otherwise almost everything is now flowering. I've been lucky enough to have several double-spikers this year (at least seven!), so I'm thrilled with this overload of colour (and scent, in the case of the several novelty Phals I have).

A cool mix of the South American species Aganisia cyanea and a Zygopetalum hybrid. This mericlone has a fairly typical shape and form for a Zygopetalinae intergeneric hybrid. I have seen darker violet of this flowers but I was surprised my blooms are lighter with lots of lavender-blue highlights especially on the lip and column and at the tips of the sepals and petals. This usually have three or four flowers per inflorescence and mine has five which is not bad at all for me. I read that Zygopetalinae intergenerics are good candidates for culture under lights because of their low light requirements. They also do great in semi-hydroponics. I keep this plant fairly moist year-round. Fertilizer weekly weakly.
This has a slight scent of fresh cut hay.

Best blooming yet! Two spikes, one with 6 blooms, one with 10! Previously this twice had at most 5 buds per spike, both times two buds blasted. The most blooms at one time was 7, I think - 2 spikes, one with 4 blooms, one with 3.

This one has turned out to be a frequent bloomer (3-4 times a year), as well as becoming a monster! lol! It's taking over the windowsill it grows on. It's in a four inch pot, tho needs bigger, but side to side takes 22 inches of windowsill space! The now blooming bifoliate growth (this gets and blooms from both bifoliate and unifoliate growth) has a leaf span of about 15 inches!

First plant I ever bought on ebay - I wanted to try something... I got this a number of years ago - 6 maybe? - Early in my orchid growing adventure. First plant I ever bought on ebay - I wanted to try something different from my mostly Oncidium alliance from Trader Joe's orchids. This was cheap (very small division) and listed as easy to grow. I promptly forgot the name as at the time I was only concerned about knowing it was an Epidendrum. I did remember it was a species. But it was a noid til it finally started to bloom a week or so ago, and someone was able to ID it for me ;)

I waaaaaaaaay underwatered this, especially in summer, for the first 2-3 years I had it. I'm surprised it survived, tho not surprisingly it didn't do very well until I realized it needed a good deal of water :p Once I got the watering right, it exploded - it's gone up a pot size each year. Over the past year and a half I found a place for it were it receives very good light year round, and it has finally rewarded me with some very tiny blooms lol.

This spike actually started last spring or summer, but the plant broke the pot it was in, and despite my being careful when getting it into a bigger pot, buds withered. But a few months later a new cluster of buds started on the same spike :D There are a few other spikes growing now also.

This is a pretty small plant for an Epi - photo showing plant in a 4" pot. I had a heck of a time trying to get somewhat decent pix of the tiny blooms!

I bought the mini Dendrobium peguanum from Clown Alley Orchids in Houston, Tx a month ago and it had a few buds forming when I bought it. I love the small flowers that have a great purple lip and form in clusters.

I have a Jewel orchid that I bought at an Orchid meeting. It looked great and I had to have it. It was had flower spikes and some buds on it. It started blooming a week or so after I got it but it grew too tall for the shelf it was on so I had to move it onto a bigger shelf. It looks great and the pictures came out good surprising that I didn't have a micro lens to use.

I bought my Dendrobium nobile Love memory 'Fizz' last May when I went to go visit my parents in Colorado. I bought it and it had buds on it but they weren't open at the time. I saw what it was going to look at and they smelled great. I loved how tall the canes were and how many beautiful flowers were growing along the sides. When the flowers started opening on the left side, there were three buds forming, two of them formed mutated without two petals but the other one is fine. I have grown my orchids inside on a three fixture (6 bulbs) setup and with watering regularly but I slowed down when it started getting colder but this plant started growing four more canes from the base. It started growing the new flowers off of the top of the older cane that had the blooms on it when I bought the plant. The first two photos below are from when I bought the plant and the last two are the new blooms.

The last one that is blooming now is a NOID white Phalaenopsis. I bought this one last year for $1. I saw that the flowers falling off were white and I loved how large the leaves are and how tall the spike was. It has seven large leaves that are all about 12" inches long and one flower on it thats (5" by 3 1/2"). I love how the lip looks and the colors in the base on it.

It had been through so much (mealy bugs and root rot) it ended up dying.

The lady at our local garden store was super nice and gave me a huge discount on a new plant. So I got another Phal that's white. The spike is around 3 feet at it's highest arch and I had a hard time fitting it in the car! I read around on a few threads and decided to repot it myself even in bloom because I'd rather loose a few flowers instead of another plant in spag. I had my husband help me and it took a long time to repot the silly thing in bark. I ended up poking little bark pieces through the basket one at a time.

So here it is a week later, I haven't lost any buds or blooms. In fact, two more opened this week. It's in an oxygen core basket pot and the roots look really nice. I think I finally got it figured out!

Also, it's top heavy and my current solution is to tie the stick to our bookshelf. I'm an art teacher though, so I'm making my own ceramic pot that will hold it steady.

I haven't been around for a while, just thought I would share some new flowers with you. It's good to have a few flower over summer as normally I don't get much this time of year. This is the first time I have flowered these, please enjoy:

Paph Pine Glow x delenatii - Seedling. Nice soft pink colouring. I have lots of trouble getting the foliage a bit darker, it's almost yellow but always has been. Must need really heavy shade? It's a sequential flowering plant and you can see the bud to the bottom right as you look at the photo.

Paph Charles Sladden - I really like this one, apparently it's been around a long time but I'm happy with the shape and colour.

Paph Wossner Butterfly - terrible dorsal but might flower better next time. First time flowering seedling and grows cold.

I just got this today, its Laelia Santa Barbara Sunset 'Showtime' Am/AOS. This plant has been on my wish list since i first started growing orchids almost three years ago, im so happy to finally have it. i got it from Waldor orchids, it came in BUD! i cant wait till it opens all the way, super healthy plant!! thw whole thing is 33" tall!

The species is a terrestrial or lithophytic plant occurring in evergreen, lowland forest in shady humid habitats with rocky substrates along streams and rivers without pseudobulbs, the fleshy red stems twisted, erect and pendulous are 8 to 10 inches(20 to 25 cm) long and have stalked elliptic-lanceolate 2 to 3 inches(5 to 7.5cm) leaves and blooms in winter to early spring on a terminal cylindrical fairly dense 4 to 12 inches (10 to 30 cm) long inflorescence that has small asymetrical, fragrant flowers (smells like Irish Spring soap if you put your nose near it)that lasts 2 to 3 weeks. I plant them in a media of 50% potting soil and 50% tree bark and I am giving it bright indirect light on a southfacing window and humid well watered conditions(evenly moist) year round(no rest period). If the leaves lose the dark green and a lot of pale red becomes visible, then theis is a sign that it is getting too much light.
One of the easiest orchids to grow, a trouble-free subject.
Hardy to Zone 10 and higher for outdoors. Minimum temperature 60° indoors.
Great for a hanging basket!

I have at least 10 phals that are in spike right now or growing new spikes from old ones. But none of the buds are growing enough to make it! they are all blasting either when they are still tiny or when they become medium sized. I've read all that leads to bud blast, but light is right humidity etc.... everything seems to be fine. I'm almost ready to give up. What to do to prevent bud blast ?!!!:shock::scratchhead::dunno:

She said she had had a couple, but they didn't look to good. So, I continued looking, but everybody that sells them sell them for $40 and upwards. I just don't think I could do that for a plant that isn't even in spike. A couple of days after I contacted my seller, I got a package from her delivered to my door. I was anxious to see what was inside of it. When, I opened it I found a Angraecum sesquipedale. I was so happy. And the best part was that it's in spike. I also recieved a schomburgkia tibineana(?). I called her right away to thank her and she told me it was because I am always so nice to her. To repay her, I packed up all of the plants that I didn't want anymore and sent them to her. I believe there were 7 in total. Anyways, here are some pictures of my new baby. Can't wait to see the blooms. The last picture is of the spike as of today.

This is a small species from Western and Central Africa found growing as an epiphytic in shady forests and thickets. I grow this in intermediate conditions, (65F) with high humidity 90%(sprayed in the morning and near the humidifier). It grows best mounted and my preference is tree fern, although other growers prefer cork bark. I discovered that this species tend to get leaf burn quite easily if the leaves are wet and gets under direct sunlight; so I avoid any direct sun.
This is its first time bloom and I am lucky to have three 2 inches flowers that looks like its edges were eaten by bugs, maybe its a mechanical thing. I thought the buds would blast because it got weird bud colors.
I don't know what it means but its two-lobed...referring maybe to the leaves

I've been a quiet on here lately as I've had so much going on, it's been hard to keep up with orchidboard-life!

It's also been quite hard to find time to take some snaps of all the chids (especially as it's been so gloomy here lately, the light hasn't been good for indoor snapping). Anyway, I finally managed to get some pics of the lovely Coelia Bella in bloom again this winter :) I really like this one - it's so easy to grow and is a nice reliable bloomer (her flowers also smell like marzipan).

I had 7 flowers this year (last year only 6). I've included the link to last year's photos as I wasn't able to get a good picture of the whole plant his year. It's bigger now it's got another p/bulb and leaves but those of your who don't know the plant can get an idea. One thing of notes it that last year, she bloomed on Christmas day, this year the blooms started to open at the beginning of Nov (perhaps [?] due to the milder temps this year compared to last year when we were under 4ft of snow!)

Cycnoches are epiphytic lowland orchids in the Tribe Cymbidieae, Subtribe Catasetinae. They are closely allied to Catasetum, Mormodes, Clowesia and Dressleria. The name Cycnoches is derived from the Greek words ‘kyknos’ meaning swan and ‘auchen’ meaning neck and is in reference to the thin arching column of the male flowers. They are found from Mexico down through Central America into the Amazon Basin of South America. They have cigar shaped fleshy pseudobulbs of several internodes topped by a few thin heavily veined large leaves. The pseudobulbs themselves can be from approximately 8 inches tall to more than 20 + inches tall. As a general rule, the taller the plant, the thicker the pseudobulb. The flowers which are produced on the apical portion of the pseudobulb can be single or up to as many as 30 + on an inflorescence. But sadly, I had only one bloom on the first time I have posessed this plant. The other buds have blasted. They can range from about an inch in size to over 6 inches. The inflorescence can be erect to arching to pendulous. Each pseudobulb, depending on the species, can produce one to several spikes with some producing up to 6 or more. The flowers are fairly long lived especially when compared to Catasetums and many are extremely fragrant. You will need to smell them yourself to decide on a description. My flower smell sweetly spicy to me.

This is the first flask from the WOC I have deflasked, the plants are big and the leaves were trying to grow through the cork in the top of the flask. I have potted them up in small coconut with some large bark in the bottom for extra drainage. I will grow them inside my home for a while until I can put them outside in the shade house. For a Cym these are an intermediate grower compared the the cold growing 'normal' Cyms I have. If anyone has any tips at all for growing these other than ..............not to cold and not to hot then I would appreciate it. They are large plants out of flask and were probably left in there to long, thus the concertina effect on some leaves.

P.S. They seem to put out a rhizome, on many this was an awkward position for potting up so I cut the rhizome (something i hadn't seen on a Cym before) and have potted each plant individually.

The first is a cattleya I bought 5 years ago NBS that is going to flower for the FIRST time!!!... Here are a few of my plants getting ready to flower. The first is a cattleya I bought 5 years ago NBS that is going to flower for the FIRST time!!! Took it long enough!! Its supposed to be Pot. Cameron's Magnetism, but by the looks of the bud, it definitely is not, so NOID it now is. The next that I also bought NBS 3 years ago and am dying to see flower is labeled Paph Lippewunder x Lippewunder. It is a mooooonster!! In the pics I have its bud next to Phrag schlimii to show a comparison, and one of me holding it, even though I couldnt fit the whole thing in the pic. (Dont mind the messy grow area in the background, its my cold growing area and it gets majorly neglected). Then there is Paph Pinocchio that is starting a new spike. It had a tumble and broke its last one, at which point it was starting its 21st bud (sequential). It was about 4 feet long. I am definitely taking pics of this ones development!! And last but not least for now is Phal Stone Dance 3N (Su-An Cricket 'Joy' x equestris var. alba 'Mime' 4N). I thought it would be white or off whiteish green, but it has pretty strong pigmentation, so not too sure what it will look like, but super excited either way!! I also have some NOID phals and catts that are just starting to spike, so I will post pics when they are further along. :biggrin:

During Summer I began spraying the chids and my entire yard with Talstar P at 5 to 6 week intervals in an effort to break the reproductive cycle of these dreaded, destructive, hard to kill pests. The Talstar has been very effective and there has been a drastic improvement in the appearance of my blooms this season. I am so relieved and so is my nodosa.

This one is an intergeneric hybrid consisting of Cochlioda, Miltonia and Odontoglossum.
Vuylstekeara Fall in Love ‘Lovely Lady’ AM/AOS is Vuyl. Memoria Mary Kavanaugh x Oda. Helen Stead.
This is a plant that puts out stunning lavender flowers. The flowers can be up to five inches across and they are long-lasting and mildly fragrant like the scent of talcum baby powder.
They are easy to grow, too. Provide bright indirect light and a temperature range of 60 to 85 degrees. Allow to get almost dry, but not quite, between watering, just like I care for Phals. I fertilize twice a month with alternating seaweed mix and worm tea mix.
These are clones of the 85-point award winner with two pseudobulbs and one new growth. They are in coarse bark, lava rock, charcoal and hydroton mix.
