I have been looking through some of these threads with interest and joyous heart. It shows that so many folks do have big hearts and truly care!
Animals have always played a big part in my life and that of my family's. As such I want to Salute all those who decide to take on the responsibility of Animal Rescue Cases. Whether it be one or many!
It is a shame that animals of all shapes and sizes suffer due to the Ignorance of so few. So I wish to Celebrate those that care. As such I wish to share the stories of such people and Animals.
My mother retired just over 8 years ago retired and since then she has dedicated most of her spare time to Fostering and helping animals recover to find good new homes. Every time I speak to her it seems she has a new animal in to take care of. From Degus to Cats, from Rats to Dogs she has seen it all. If she had the space I'm sure she take on larger animals too.
She is supported by the RSPCA for the care of the animals, but she is not paid for her time and does this purely out of the goodness of her own heart. All the support she receives goes directly to the animals. Many of he Inspectors she deals with will also take under their wing the extreme cases that need permanent medical care.
Some of the rescue stories she has come across are not only heartbreaking but also in some cases beg belief. In one year alone she fostered, helped and re-homed over 200 cats and kittens. My old bedroom turned into the special care room with quarantine cages supplied by the local vets and RSPCA. It will warm her heart to see so many animal lovers in one place and to "All of You" that care for your animals and have even taken on a rescue case or more, Thank-you!
When the Credit Crunch it, animal charities here in the UK (and more abroad too I guess) saw an extreme increase in abandoned animals. This is sad as I know for a fact most animal charities are willing to support people in keeping their pets when times are hard.
Recently there was an extremely heartbreaking case of a cat that had been put into a paper shredder. Yes, you did just read that right! The cat survived, barely, and the inspector involved is now having nightmares about the case saying it was the worst she had ever seen and that's saying something. The person who did this is now in custody, a teenager who's parents could not believe they had done this! This is an extremely sad case that has not only left a cat mutilated but a family broken. My heart not only goes out to the Cat and the Inspectors involved but also the Parents who's lives have been turned upside down.
Praise those that Care! Don't turn a blind eye! Records have shown that there is a strong connection between those who start by being cruel to animals eventually translating this cruelty to other humans.
I do not wish to depress people with this post, but rather encourage those with the capability to help to do so (Every little helps) and to those who spend so much of their time helping "Thank you for caring!" ]]>

Here are some pictures of my 75 gallon Freshwater Aquarium. It was recently converted from fish only saltwater to freshwater. It was a saltwater tank for about 8 years, but I had a biological crash and converted it to freshwater. Right now it is in the process of cycling so there is only 4 fish: Blue Gouramis. Later on I plan to get some more gouramis or maybe some African Cichlids, along with some more rocks. Enjoy everyone.

These little guys are running all over the place and I can often hear them calling in the morning.
Tata and Lucky. Two Chihuahuas. Not really a fan of them as they do nothing but yap, but oh well. Oh and if you notice, Lucky is partially blind; don't really know why.
Steel. Actually named the Thai word for steel, due to his initial color, but I can't remember it. Chubby little pup isn't he? :D
Money. For some reason, I'm one of of the few people he likes. If he doesn't like you, he let's you know.
]]>Just now heard from the vet that he is awake and alert.
He got hold of a corn cob from the trash, ate it and a 1 X 2 piece got lodged in the opening from his stomach to his small intestine. It was a close call because dogs go downhill fast but so far he's holding his own and is in stable condition.
The house is soooo quiet and Genie and Luke keep searching the house for him.
Please, for the sake of your doggies-- watch out that they don't get hold of corn cobs!

So I drove to PetSmart. I figured I might have a chance, still. But there was Juli, already with the puppy on a leash and playing. Thinking perhaps I had one last out, I asked the adoption people about the puppy. They said he had some agression issues with other dogs because of how a female pit treated him in a foster home. "Well, go get Sully," Juli said. Sully, you may remember, came to live with me in October as a birthday present to myself, and had his own agression issues for me to work through.
Well, Sully and I walked up to Juli and the puppy when I got back, and the puppy immediately snarled and bared his teeth. Sully looked at him like he wanted to laugh, then lay down on the grass. And then the two were playing and rolling around. And I knew I was defeated. When we got the puppy (he came with the name Daniel) home he and Sully played and played and played, until both were too tired to move any more. And last night he slept on the bed, basically wrapped around my head. Gets around pretty well for a three-legged dog!
Oh, so now we have six dogs. Here's Daniel (isn't he a cute thing!), and also Daniel with Sully:
]]>Moo on the other hand is perfect in all ways. She's a special needs kitty with a bobble head, 26 toes (she's showing them off), and a weak sense of balance (read: randomly eats sh*t for no reason :dumb:). She's always a polite little lady though and doesn't eat orchids! :cloud9:
But inbetween these 2 heartbreaking losses, I found Daffy who helped mend these sad times and more than that, has added immeasurable joy to my life.
Tomorrow (July 27th) Daffy turns 2!:biggrin: Since I shared with you all here, my sorrows over my losses, is it ok now to share with you some happiness and pass on these pics of my Daffy who I've been blessed with? OF COURSE IT IS!!!!:biggrin::blowkisses:

Just yesterday I've got my Iwanagara ruined as the last of a series of victims....

I've tought to mount and hang the plant high enough but I'm so scarred he gonna jump, grapple on the cork and pull it all down that would be just a better game to do for him.:banana:
Another idea is to make the plant disgusting to him through spraying, I've read bout red peppers but i'm not sure how to use it. The plant rarely takes any rain and the cat do anything with his teeth so i'm pretty sure a bad smell and a taste should work fine. This also would work for any plant and with no extra effort beside prepare the solution.
Last is to grow some cat weed togeter but beside eating weed I'm sure he would keep play with 'chids:(

I found her (Mitzy, aka "Satan", a name given her on numerous unrelated occasions by various people) lying in the flat one day, so I decided to go with the flow and slide things over to one side for her. This way she has more room AND she is less likely to knock over the epiphyllum cuttings that are currently rooting under the lights. A few weeks later, I shot this picture of her, because she was just so relaxed and oozing out into the tray. It's like winter, when we have the wood stove going and she oozes out over the floor in front of it. Only now she has a plant tray to contain her. :lol:
I know, she just sounds adorable, right? WRONG! She's a selfish, vain little demon! She's only cuddly when she wants a heat source, you have to pass a sniff inspection every time you want to pet her, and hardly anyone passes the test, she will stop in the middle of a dead run to give herself a single lick (wouldn't want a hair out of place would we?), and she is nearly intolerant of blonds (my brother's old girlfriend (a blond) put tape on her feet when she was a kitten, I guess she doesn't care to let things go. There were 2 black kittens in her litter, and I think I chose the evil twin. And don't tell me she's just a normal cat. I've known plenty of much nicer cats. But she's mine, so I've gotta love her quirks, warts and all. :evil:

I would like to introduce you all to my gray & white DSH cat Heather. She was adopted by my family from the local animal shelter about 2 years ago. We live on 5 acres so she is a outside/inside cat. Also, my dad's allergic to cats so she can't stay inside all the time. She is such a character and is so sweet. She's a real lap-cat and has many doglike attributes. So anyway, here is my kitty baby chilling under the pillows on my bed.

Gracie is our 9 year old Boxer. Her beautiful face is getting dusted with age....she just couldn't be any sweeter if she tried!
His original family didn't really think it through about getting a dog and they just left him neglected in a cage for the first part of his life. He's had some social issues resulting from the neglect, but he's doing SO much better these days. I love this dog soooo much!

I tried to join the vivarium forum but have not been approved yet. I figured many of you who keep orchids also enjoy frogs as pets. I want to set up a new home for two Red Eyed Green Tree frogs. I have read that they are not good frogs for newbies, but things like that have never stopped me before. What are the minimum requirements to keep them happy? Also, does anyone know any breeders or pet stores in the Atlanta, Ga area where I can purchase supplies and the frogs as well? If not, can anyone recommend a trusted online breeder? There is something about this frog that is hyptonizing to me. I want to create a naturalistic habitat for them ( no water fall though). I just ordered a new misting system from Marty so I have that covered. Any help would be appreciated.

Placing a paw print in the middle of my plate and food does not stake a claim for it becoming your food and dish, nor do I find that aesthetically pleasing in the slightest.
The stairway was not designed by NASCAR and is not a racetrack. Racing me to the bottom is not the object. Tripping me doesn't help because I fall faster than you can run.
I cannot buy anything bigger than a king sized bed. I am very sorry about this. Do not think I will continue sleeping on the couch to ensure your comfort, however. Dogs and cats can actually curl up in a ball when they sleep. It is not necessary to sleep perpendicular to each other, stretched out to the fullest extent possible. I also know that sticking tails straight out and having tongues hanging out on the other end to maximize space is nothing but sarcasm.
For the last time, there is no secret exit from the bathroom! If, by some miracle, I beat you there and manage to get the door shut, it is not necessary to claw, whine, meow, try to turn the knob or get your paw under the edge in an attempt to open the door. I must exit through the same door I entered. Also, I have been using the bathroom for years - canine/feline attendance is not required.
The proper order for kissing is: Kiss me first, then go smell the other dog or cat's butt. I cannot stress this enough.
Finally, in fairness, dear pets, I have posted the following message on the front door:
TO ALL NON-PET OWNERS WHO VISIT AND LIKE TO COMPLAIN ABOUT OUR PETS:
(1) They live here. You don't. (2) If you don't want their hair on your clothes, stay off the furniture. That's why they call it 'fur'-niture. (3) I like my pets a lot better than I like most people. (4) To you, they are animals. To me, they are adopted sons/daughters who are short, hairy, walk on all fours and don't speak clearly.
Remember, dogs and cats are better than kids because they (1) eat less, (2) don't ask for money all the time, (3) are easier to train, (4) normally come when called, (5) never ask to drive the car, (6) don't hang out with drug-using people; (7) don't smoke or drink, (8) don't want to wear your clothes, (9) don't have to buy the latest fashions, (10) don't need a gazillion dollars for college and (11) if they get pregnant, you can sell their children. ]]>

Right now, there are a number of Florida Manatees (a subspecies of the West Indian Manatee) taking refuge from colder winter waters at Blue Spring State Park near Orange City, Florida. This particular individual was very close to a landing where folks usually head out into the water to swim (no swimming is allowed while manatees are present in winter time). As it surfaced to take a breath, I got this nice shot of its whiskery, ugly-but-cute face.

I found this interesting and wanted to pass it along.
Recently someone had to have their 5-year old German Shepherd dog put down due to liver failure.
The dog was completely healthy until a few weeks ago, so they had a necropsy done to see what the cause was.
The liver levels were unbelievable, as if the dog had ingested poison of some kind.
The dog is kept inside, and when he's outside, someone's with him, so the idea of him getting into something unknown was hard to believe.
My neighbor started going through all the items in the house. When he got to the Swiffer Wetjet, he noticed, in very tiny print, a warning which stated 'may be harmful to small children and animals.'
He called the company to ask what the contents of the cleaning agent are and was astounded to find out that antifreeze is one of the ingredients (actually, 20 he was told it's a compound which is one molecule away from antifreeze).
Therefore, just by the dog walking on the floor cleaned with the solution,
then licking its own paws, it ingested enough of the solution to destroy its liver.
Soon after his dog's death, his housekeepers' two cats also died of liver failure.
They both used the Swiffer Wetjet for quick cleanups on their floors.
Necropsies weren't done on the cats, so they couldn't file a lawsuit,
but he asked that we spread the word to as many people as possible so they don't lose their animals.
This is equally harmful to babies and small children that play on the floor a lot and put their fingers in their
mouths a lot.

These guys are only centimeters long, 2 wide, lol. They are the cutest anurans I have, they walk don't jump/hop. Natives of the Pampas region, they are also called Pampas toads, or Bumblebee walking toads. I'll try to take a pic of the other one, which is probably a girl.

]]>Here are the pictures of my other kids: Molly ( Soft-Coated Wheaten Terrier) and Jamie ( Scottish Terrier ). Both of them are 8 years old now.
Prior to Molly, I had Sammy, a cross between Lab and Bassethound. I used to call him "Basse-dor." I guess he was a pioneer of those "designer" dogs such as Cocka-poo. :rofl: He was the smartest dog I have ever had, though.
Upon loosing him, Mike, my partner took me to a breeder to choose one of 8 Litters. That's how Molly ended up coming home with me.
Mollycart1 came from "Molly" (my baby) and "cart" (my MINI cooper). BTW, they are so spoiled.
The first two pictures are Merlin aka "Fat Cat." He was adopted from the shelter when my daughter was about a year old. He was the last of a litter of kittens to be adopted who were found abandonded in a box nearly starved to death and too young to be without their mother. He still has "nursing" issues where he likes to suck on your clothes when you pet him sometimes!
When we put my daughter down for naps as a baby, we were always careful to close her bedroom door so the kitten didn't wake her up. They loved playing together. Then one day I heard something odd over the baby monitor and went in to see what on earth she was doing in there. It was Merlin curled up next to her purring his little kitten heart out as she slept. They are still close buddies and cuddle up under her blankies together (she is 8 now).
Our dog is also a shelter adoptee. His name is Harley. He's a Boston Terrier and something mix. The vet thought that it's possible he's purebred, but doesn't look like a typical boston due to inbreeding at a puppy mill or bad breeder. All we know is that he has really bad gas no matter what we fee him. That dog can clear a room! :nono: ... in fact I just heard him fart! :shock:
Third adoptee is Mocha. I call her my "patrol car kitty." About two weeks after we got Merlin, I was on partol (military police) the day before Christmas of 2001. There was no animal control on duty, and someone had found a kitten and called to have her picke up. She was cold and scared and I couldn't much warm her up in my arms since I had a nice thick hard bullet proof vest on. But she jumped up in the back window of my patrol car and rode there all the way to the animal services building where I left a note on her cage that if not claimed, I'd be back for her. The day after Christmas she came home with us. They called and said no one has ever claimed a stray cat from them, so I might as well take her.
Mocha's other nickname is "The Scavenger." Do not leave your food unattended around her! It's odd that she's the skinny minnie, because she'll eat anything off your plate the minute you turn your head, yet Merlin won't touch anything other than dry food, not even the canned stuff. When we just put our dirty dishes in the sink, we usually hear a clink or two when we leave the room as Mocha jumps into the sink to see what's left.
And that is the story behind my adopted children! They are all one happy little family. Merlin will even cuddle with the dog. Mocha tollerates him and sometimes tries to steal his food!
this past Saturday, I met a breeder who decided she was getting too old to stay in the business and she no longer could keep up with all the work involved. I took one look at this pretty girl and said, "I want her."
I took her home today and it's been the best medicine/band-aide for this broken heart. She's working her magic on me. She's very sweet, trusting, loves being held but staying under the vanity in the bathroom I've given her until she feels like venturing out to meet Lilly (my other cat) and Annie, the doggie.
I don't have a name for her yet but I'm thinking of, "Bridgette". Any suggestions for a name would be welcome!

Our little guys' name is Bilbao de Fabio (Bil for short) and he is a Spanish Water Dog. 9 weeks old, chocolate color and good as I could have ever wished for. Hope you like the couple pics I'm posting the first one was taken when he was 6 weeks and still in Utah. The others were yesterday at his new home. I think he liked trading 2 feet of snow for palm trees and warm green grass. I know I did.

Well over thanksgiving weekend, we found his twin bro at the Humane Society! Another Pointer/Lab- We named him Max. And he is sooo cool!! 2 yrs old, just as Jake. We think they could be true bro's cause they both come from the Humane Society. We adopted Jake less than 2 yrs ago. He had 5 siblings. Max was adopted from there at that same time in 07, but brought back to the HS this Thanksgiving week due to his owner getting very sick, and in the hospital for a long time.
We are hoping they are tru bro's, but it doesn't matter cause they truly LOVE each other like Bro's :blowkisses:

]]>We got Angel almost 5 years ago. Angel has a bit of an attitude. If you try to get her out of her tank, without giving her some kind of warning she will strike at you. I love her, attitude and all.
We got Lilly almost 2 years ago. Her attitude is far removed from Angel's. Lilly hasn't tried to bite me and she is very calm when she is out of the tank. If it is possible for snakes to be sweet, Lilly is.

Here's the problem, I have no experience whatsoever on how to take care of this little guy. I bought the food and gave it 4pcs since I got home. I have not transferred it to it's new home. Can I use tap water, rain water or bottled water? How often should I feed it and how much? The directions on the food says 2-3/day but it does not say how much.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

This is Vinnie. He's a Uropygid -- aka vinegaroon. Native to the tropics, uros eat arthropods and are believed to also be scavengers. Quite harmless, they lack stingers or venom. Their common name derives from their ability to produce droplets of acetic acid (vinegar) compounds to deter predators.
