Feral Dendros! It definitely does look to be from a 'Samurai' type parent. The do grow extremely fdast, often flowering 3 year out-of-flask, so who knows. Then, again, you are not the only orchid nut on the island, are you? I mean, teaching your cat to plant Phaius. Really a bit extreme, but---I like it.

Voyager- Even over in Europe the volcanic activity in Hawaii has made it on the news. I've been thinking of you and your gorgeous orchid filled slice of paradise. Seeing your profile information (Pahoa Hawaii), it seems that you are in the middle of it. Are you ok?

It has been exciting.
We do live in Leilani Estates only about a mile from the larger flow that happened yesterday.
We have not been directly threatened and are one of the few that have not evacuated the subdivision.
I've heard the number being put at a dozen that have stayed.
EDIT:
The number is now up to 23 households from a count being made by those that have stayed.

We almost left last night, but now the eruption yesterday, with its larger flow of lava, feels as if it might have relieved some of the pressure.
It may only be a temporary lull before it picks up again.
The line of fissures that have been opening look as if they might be about to exit the subdivision, moving into a relatively unpopulated area.
Then, if the ones here in the subdivision will quiet down things might go back to normal.

The debacle of the county and state's efforts to oversee things have actually locked us in here.
If we went out to pickup mail and packages, water, etc. They wouldn't let us back in. So, we're stuck here boiling drinking water with mail and packages sitting at the P.O. and FedEx. We have plenty of food but we are running low on fresh fruit and veggies.

They have begun to allow people to return to remove possessions and find pets. I'm thinking that I might be able to make a run to town today using the mess of people trying to check on their homes as cover to get in and out.

I'm so glad we are spending our Golden Years in Paradise.
Between the hurricanes and volcanic eruptions, it has been interesting.
We are doing well and are safe for now.
So far, if we are threatened, we can get out.

EDIT:
I have just added an album for pics on the lava eruptions we are experiencing.

Hawai'i / Lava News and Pics
I will be updating maps of the activity as changes are noted.

EDIT again:
Just to keep this on subject:
My Den. lindleyi had finished blooming.
Then, a frond fell from its tree tearing it off the trunk of the palm.
It is now on a raft hanging from an eave on the house.
I have faith that it will recover.
