Default Dens old canes

I have a question regarding my den. How long do you keep the old leafless canes? I ve had this den for atleast 5yrs and last yr I had to divide it as it had lots of old leafless canes that had already bloomed. I left most of them with the plants, but this yr I cut them off as there was alot of them. My question is are the old canes like p bulbs on cyms where they start taking away from plant or do you keep them until they turn brown? This plant bloomed again since the split, so there are no issues regarding its health. I have a picture of it in my album before I divided it, but here's it's name and pic. Thanks for replying.

Essentially the old bloomed-out canes are only as energy reserve for the plants. Once they yellow and brown-out, they are best removed at the base to prevent possible rot setting in. No hurry, I do this about once a year when I repot, etc.
