Dendrobium spectabile

this is one of my den. spectabile's it has started blooming this week. these given the right conditions will bloom twice a year now and again around october. i can see spots to where i will get more spikes in october i hope

I like it… I’ve been tempted to get one…is it true that they need to be almost root bound to get them to bloom?

Thanks for posting those shots! I had ordered this plant back in the fall but no signs of a spike forming. At least I'll know what it's supposed to look like!

no sorry i mean spots on the canes where new spikes form.
as far as the term nubbin i have never seen any deffinition give to a spike or root in any of my books being referred to as a nubbin

these do need to be root bound before they will bloom, light levels should be about the same as a catt, they do grow a little faster under higher light but it may cause some problems with flowering

Love 'em but they get WAY too tall for me. [Saw a 4ft tall one at a show and I know they can get taller than that.]

I think the Dendrobium spectabile is one of the most unusual blooms I've seen. You did a great job blooming it.
I bought a young one at the WOC and repotted it from a 3" to a 4"pot. It was potbound. Do you think I should keep it in the smallest pot available or just suck it up and wait for it to fill out the new pot?
