Dend atroviolaceum
This plant is blooming like crazy! I really like the Latouriates because the flowers will last for months. Anyway, Im always amazed by the contrast of the purple in the lip to dark center of the flower and the light fringes. I hope that made sense.

I like that! I'm like you on the lip of the flower. It was the first thing that I saw. Is it very hard to grow?

Nope. Medium light, year round moisture (but allow it to get dryish between waterings) and normal intermediate 'chid temps. Ive actually read that this guy will stand temps down to just above freezing, but since Im living in HI I dont get a chance to test that theory out! I also like it because its pretty different looking, the flower I mean. I definitely like the wierd ones though!!

I love it!! Great color contrast. I've seen a few of these around lately but never any for sale. How big will this guy get? Great growing Steve, thanks for sharing!

I'm so pleased to see your beautiful plant, Steve. Looks like a lot of bloom for the size. I have ordered a Den. atroviolaceum 'Pygmy' x 'Little Elf' so now am really anxious for it to arrive! Nice to hear that you consider them easy to grow.

Mine is about a foot tall .... I think. Its the same size as my Dend johnsoniae (if that helps!). However, one of its parents is 'Pygmy' (the other is 'H&R') so its probably smaller than the average plant. Its originally from H&R and I doubt Ive ever not seen some atroviolaceum when Im down there. FYI...Just in case you want to get one .

This might be a good candidate for the Project 6 plant. If I can't talk em into this one I'll just have to order one for myself. Thanks!

I've had my eye on this one for a while as well! I love it because of the uniqueness of the blooms. I even put it on my project 6 list (which is getting longer and longer ) but I'm havig trouble finding a vendor in the EU.
