Den. antennatum temperature? Male
Default Den. antennatum temperature?

Hello,
I have a Den antennatum which is almost in brink of death.
I put it in unheated balcony where temperature is around 17 to 19C at noon and drops to 8 to 10C at night. Is it too cold for it? Should I put it in warmer location? Thanks in advance.

I don't grow this one, but I think if the plant is not doing well, being warmer may be better.

I also found this on the AOS Dendrobium culture page
Quote:
SPATULATA (Antelope Type) Evergreen for several years. Most are large, vigorous plants with long-lasting flowers in summer to several times a year. Species such as Den. antennatum, Den. canaliculatum, Den. discolor, Den. gouldii, Den. johannis, Den. lineale (veratrifolium), Den. stratiotes, Den. strebloceras and Den. taurinum.

Culture Warm all year (60 to 65 F nights, 75 to 90 F days); no rest period; can be kept cooler in winter if dry; medium to high light.

Baker and Baker recommends to keep it at least 15C night for the winter. In nature, it experiences 29-31C max and 20-22C min year around.

There are a lot of other Dendrobiums that would be happy with these temperatures.

Many thanks. In fact, I was bit worried about the temp, but was hoping for it to survive...but I guess it was too cold for it.

I'll move it to other location.

Antennatum is a lowland, coastal plant in its native habitat. That means high humidity, high light, high temperature all the time.

Here in Jakarta, I grow them full sun with probably 26-28degree centigrade with lots of air circulation (It lives on a balcony on the 28th floor)

Hi,
I grow antennatum, and I can tell you your temperatures are way too low for this one. Bring it up to at least 21C day and minimum 19C night (for winter season) and you might be able to save it. Don't forget it also loves humidity and being moist all the time. Good luck, I love this den, so I hope it grows and flowers well for you.
