Default Den tetragonum var. giganteum

Here are some shots of my Dendrobium tetragonum var giganteum. I bought it last January from my favorite Dutch grower, and was told that the plant was still 2 years from blooming size. Obviously the plant liked the care it got and it decided to bloom a year early! 3 of the canes were carrying 2 blooms each. Not a bad flower count for a first time.

Super! What an unusual flower for a Dendrobium. I had to look twice to make sure I wasn't looking at a peloric Dendrochilum! What does the plant look like? Is it a larger sized Dendrobium? Is it fragrant? I'm asking all of these questions because now I want one too! <LOL>

I would never have guessed that was a Dendrobium from that flower! Beautiful, and good growing!

Thanks!

This is an Australian Den, and this is on of the 4 varieties that exist of this species. The flower shape is fairly typical of Aussie Dens.
My plant is 5" tall, and in a 3" pot. It's still a smallish plant. I haven't reinstalled Orchidwiz on my new computer yet but from I found on internet, a mature plant has 8-10" canes. So it's still relatively compact. Supposedly it's a fragrant plant, but I haven't noticed anything from mine yet.
