If you ever get tired of the blooms, you can always send it to me! LOL...
BTW, it looks like you have another bud there that has yet to open in the front between the front two blooms! Congrats! I'm still waiting on mine to open that first bud. It's there, and I see color forming so I know it's getting close. I'm chomping at the bits! |
Looks like I'll have to divide it when I tire of it. Yes, Paul, it has another two buds opening.
|
That's fantastic! Thanks for sharing! This is one of those plants that's been in the back of my mind while I wonder if I have the conditions to grow it. Do you have any problems keeping it cool?
It's so nice having access to fellow growers in the Northwest! :) |
I don't have too much trouble - it's in a basement room, which remains relatively cool year around and we open windows early and close them as it warms up to keep the basement as cool as possible. It seems a bit more temeprature tolerant when groiwn under the highest possible light - still cool growing but a bit more amenable.

Thanks for the info! I don't have a basement, but we do the same with our windows and our house stays fairly cool. One room can get up to 80F if it's really hot outside, but the rest of the house stays under 75F.

I grow mine (I have two of these beauties) at 75F but to compensate for the heat I have them in wet sphag in net pots with a fan blowing on them to provide evaporative cooling.

I used to have one years ago, and I had good success keeping it cool. I had it in a clay pot in sphag, which I set in to another clay pot will clay balls in the bottom. I set this inside a glass bowl, and put a little water in the bottom of the bowl. The evaporation works great! Do you always use rain water for yours? |
Here in the Pacific northwest we don't have to use rainwater. Our ordinary water is so good that we don't have to do anything to it.
|
I use R/O water

Maybe it's time that I tried another Cuthbertsonii! But the only practical place to grow it is the basement, and I prefer to have it where I can see it. How do you get reduced night temperatures if you grow them under lights? |
