Dendrobium compactum

Here's my first bloom of this species. It's nice because it's colorful and only 6 inches tall.

I think so. The nomenclature of this group is so confusing.

lol I know! I was thinking I should've added to my comment - if that was even the correct name for mine - the tag says ssp. compactum - IOSPE says var. compactum ... idk lol

regardless ... awesome growing! how much light does yours get? I am trying to figure out what mine wants to bloom!

I grow it with my Cattleyas, but the Cattleyas are taller and shade the Dendrobium somewhat.

cool! thanks for the info - part of my problem I think is mine is mounted - so while inside for colder months it may not get enough light hanging from curtain rod ... may have to see what I can do to get it closer to window

have it outside now - so we'll see I guess ...

Whiterabbit does it ever get to freezing in your area? Our winter temps get to a few degrees above freezing and my dens are outside all year round. They don't like full sun and they like a cool dryish rest in the winter to set spikes. Mine are spiking like crazy and some are in full bloom. Spring starts on Sept 1st here.

It only does usually a few nights a year - I can definitely bring it inside for that ...
overnight lows in winter can range from mid 40s F to upper 30s - with a few nights getting lower ...
hmm - I had read this was a warm grower and didn't want to be less than 50 F I think ? Tho mine has likely been out at least down to upper 40s ...
Guess I should consider letting it stay outside maybe - still need to find a spot that gets good light in winter where I can hang the mount ...
