Default Adjusting the season for a confused Den. nobile

I've just been followed home by a Den. nobile whitestar. A total find in the supermarket- 9 mature pbulbs and 4 new growths on the way! (all for £14...)
The problem is just that. This den. is clearly confused about what season we're approaching, so what should I do about winter rest? Go ahead anyway- inducing it almost artificially, or just watch the plant to see when it wants to rest? Some of the new growths are very new and there are a couple of spikes on the way as well. My orchids are all grown in my apartment and I could provide good conditions for it either way.
I know that there are probably at least 2 schools of thought on this question, but I'd love to know what your personal experience of this was. My main worry about letting it do its own thing is that this will cause problems come next spring or summer.
Thanks!
kay
