BUMMED OUT
I finally found a perfect Dend. atroviolaceum viocompactum, a perfect dwarfed size. Found it on ebay and bought it from incredibleorchids.com (has great stuff, btw). Didn't insure the package and the package never got delivered. This is the first time a package went amiss. I've bought hundreds of things on ebay and it's the first time ... I could cry!!
Thanks for letting me vent.

What, the ebay seller forgot to send it to you, or did the courier service/post office lose it?
If the courier service/post office lost it, then I could understand the issue of insuring the package for shipping losses.
But if the seller forgot to ship it to you, that's THEIR fault, and they should take full responsibility to send you the plant you ordered. Shipping insurance is of no consequence whatsoever in this situation.
I had ordered a plant on ebay not too long ago, and the seller forgot to send me the plant I bought. I contacted them about it, and they happily sent me the plant as soon as they could without paying for another one.

The package was sent with a tracking/confirmation number so I'm outta luck. Didn't insure the package. The mail carrier never delivered this package though....I was home that day. It went somewhere else and there's nothing I can do about it. There have been many times I got other peoples mail. Bummer!

Thank you for letting us know that can happen. I never insure my packages, although I have tracking numbers.
I hope the person the mail was delivered to will return it to the post office, or drop it by your house.

Insuring would be good if it got damaged. Having it lost and having a tracking number (that's the reason for buying it in the first place) says it's very bad postal service, and I would go to the post office and ask to speak to the head postmaster and put in a complaint. That tracking number tells them where it is, and they should be able to find it for you. I get so irritated at the post office as they don't seem to take responsibility for anything. There is no accountability. Tracking numbers locate. Seriously, they need to do their job!

I completely agree with Kiki. Go to the post office and demand an explanation. Tracking numbers are supposed to help avoid this type of thing! Is it listed as being delivered?

I would contact the folks that you bought it from. If I had sold it and this happened I would refund the money or replace it. I've actually done it. I would also contact the post office. They may be able to talk to the carrier and see if they remember it. They have to scan the box if it has delivery confirmation. They have access to much more info than you see online. It's also mail fraud to keep a package not address to you.
I personally think that as a seller it's my responsibility to stand behind mistakes like this. I have shipped more than 1000 boxes USPS and I can count on one hand the number that did not make it. I took responsibility for those myself. I don't buy from eBay sellers that say that are not responsible for a package after they ship it. If you are into online sales it only make sense that you do so in IMHO.

That is a bummer! I have the same crappy mail service where I live and it happens repeatedly. The more friendly neighbors are good about redelivering the screw-ups to their proper destinations.
In error, I received a computer shortly before Christmas. I thought it was a package I'd ordered and only discovered the discrepancy after opening the box. I checked the name and address of the intended recipient and gave them a call to let them know what had happened. Then I called the delivery service and requested that they pick up their mistake and deliver it to the correct address. The rightful owner was very grateful for my honesty. There was nothing similar about the intended address and mine. The post office must be hiring the visually impaired.

Harry and Dounoharm I think it's very commendable that you stand behind your plants.
My thing is that the plant is not where it is suppose to be. It's really not from anything the seller did, or anything the buyer did. The blame falls directly on the postal service. They have scanners to locate and tell when the item is delivered. We pay extra for that service. Someone is not doing their job properly within the USPS system. Post Offices are businesses , therefore must be diligent, and must take responsibility for mishaps that happens on their watch.
