Default Den laevifolium 2 color forms.

2 color forms of Den laevifolium ... the normal dark pink and the aurea form. Leaves and pbulbs of the pink form have purple coloration. Leaves & p bulbs of the aurea form are all green. They both seem to come out of the same cross, usually with a predominance of the pink form.

catwalker... I did not know the aurea form... very nice... can you give some info regarding your culture of this dendrobium? I have a plant, which grows freely and very happy and strong, however I have not managed to get it to bloom yet...

Love that pale color form. Where did you get that? Better yet, if you have an extra one for sale or trade, send me a PM.

There is a white form. Have you seen that in HI?

I have seen very pale yellow ones. Maybe depending on light and temp they might be considered white. They do seem to be a little less vigorous. However, seeing the various dens and other species you grow, you should not have any trouble with them.

I find that for us the trick with them is to give phal shade in summer and as cool as you can, then as bright as you can in winter with lower warm to upper intermed temps. But you seem to be growing yours well.

thanks, that's more or less the treatment I give to my plants, however I don't get the trigger to start blooming... need to keep trying... how is your watering for this species?

Do you by chance have Dendrobium brassii? I have the same problem with this one... nicely grown, but reluctant to bloom (this species should be well known for that anyway )

If we give enough light in the winter, we can have new leaf and pbulb growth even then. And it doesn't get very cold, maybe sometimes down to 10-12C. Frequent temps of 15-20C day and 10-12 night probably make for better growth and blooms. Tom can probably answer that better. He has better temp conditions for this species.

But I think that light intensity and added day warmth are crucial to trigger blooming, since growers in temperate zones seem to be blooming them in summer (whereas, we bloom them in very early spring and also summer. But our summer blooms are somewhat constricted because of the high light and temp.

Ramon, Den. brassii is tough one to bloom according to many growers. I only have had my little plant for less than a year and I've only got few new growths so far.
I grow mine on the cool side of intermedia(not higher than 75F during the Day), moist and 2500+FC, but In the winter months, I keep it slightly drier between waterings and the day time temperature is only in the low 60s for those winter months.
Keep this in mind, I have not bloomed it , nor have I had it long enough.
