Well, I worked on the 'chid this morning.
Found nothing wrong with the roots or the cane itself!
I went over the entire cane looking for "something" that would've caused that but...zilch!
In any case, I removed that cane and while I was rearranging what was left I had a few mishaps :
I broke a spike from one of the other canes and then broke the top of another cane right off!
On the sunny side of the story...I found a great keiki growing up from the bottom so I potted that and I spag & bagged the piece I broke off.

I'll post an update pic later.

Wow! What an adventure! Hope you didn't destroy the original plant.

I don't do most Dendros or large, "floofy orchids". For me it's minis (like Angraecoides), Masdies, Paphs, and others that crept in somewhere along the line. See my orchid list for complete collection (usually not current.)

Awwww Sue, the Zengyo is such a beautiful bloom. Mine has merely lost a leaf or two but nothing like your picture. All is not so bad, just bury the dead cane in Tony's honor
Tikva...do you remember when you wrote about one of your plants that you had problems with and repotted and it had a hard bark substance, was your problem similar to Sue's?

Hopefully, the original plant will be okay...if it doesn't make it, that's fine too. I don't mind experimenting with my plants as long as I learn something from the experience. The reason this whole thing bothered me in the first place wasn't that there was a yellow cane. It's more like "Why was there a yellow cane?"
Anyway, here she is:

That's probably why Tony calls these things devil plants! I love Dendros, but not everyone does. I don't mind the idiosycracies of the genus, but not everyone does. They usually reward one with nice blossoms - at least mine do!

Thought I'd post an update on this...
Here's photo taken in the last few days of this same Den Zengyo Pink. All of the light pink blooms and the very tall cane on the left is this one plant!
Just goes to show...don't be afraid to try something new.
For this plant, that meant major surgery at a time we're told it shouldn't be done.
Do all your research, learn all you can...and then do what works for you!

Has your plant been repotted possibly damaging roots at base of cane? Some types of dendrobinae will bloom on leafless canes, but not on canes that are dessicated from extreme water loss.
Carefully check the roots and if needed, cut out the culprit to save the plant.

I missed the time lapse here from your initial post. Good job on the plant's recovery. Your dendrobium is lovely!

Just goes to show you -- don't trust Tony for recommendations!
