No black roots, just white squishy ones. I do have a couple of lovely firm greenish roots. Are these amenable to semi-hydroponics (I didn't see them on the sticky list in the SH thread)? Now I have to learn all about this type. I've only had the den-phal sort! I've heard of using a 50/50 spray solution of 70% isopropyl alcohol and water with a small amount of dish soap to treat the leaves for mealy bugs - is that safe for dens? Unfortunately I think I may have gotten them from the supplier :-/

Yes, that spray (alcohol, water, soap) is safe for any orchid, to the best of my knowledge. (At least any I grow, as I have used it.)

Regarding S/H, you will need to provide a dryer season for a nobile, so that means letting the pot dry out. An outside dish with water might be easier than using a resevoir in the bottom of the pot. Flushing will be very important to prevent salt buildup. Ray (Ray Barkalow is the originator of S/H) may comment here, or you can try searching some of his past posts.

Default Follow up

Here's a follow-up to my stick of a Den. Lost all its leaves in fall. I have done a bit of repotting (and maybe more than I should have), before giving up and sticking it next to my sink so I at least wouldn't forget it. And we have some growth! It's in a larger bark medium I picked up at garden center which said for Dendrobiums but it's sort of a PITA to keep it upright without the stake. The root system still seems pretty pathetic but I don't want to pull it to look since I have some sprouts.y question now is what's the best way to care for it at this stage? I'd like to add pics but this site isn't very user friendly (and the Tapatalk app won't even bring up this forum).
TIA!

You can add photos if you select "Go Advanced" from the message box - scroll down until you see "Manage Attachments", then Browse for the file and Upload. On the desktop it's easy... on a phone it would be more challenging (the site was designed before the phone became the internet tool of choice for many people)

I think, be patient, water lightly, and hope for new growth in the spring. It's a nobile-type Dendrobium, and those don't do much this time of year.
