Den. bracteosum is a good plant to have in your collection. As pheli mentions, the flowers are long lasting. The flowers will last for 2-3 months. Besides pink, white is a common color. The plant is an easy grower under tropical conditions.

This Den.detiolatum - can you tell me who described it & when as IPNI does not have any record of it. Also is this the plant that was once known as Den."tanni" with flowers very similar to D.bracteosum. If so P.O'Byrne mentioned in an article that the variation of the flowers fell in the range of D.bracteosum. I have a plant of D."tannii" myself & have noticed a slight variation but I have also seen about 50 ( all together & in flower) & the flowers do vary from D.bracteosum to this D."tannii".
People - please excuse the inverted coma's as tannii was to my knowledge never described.

Maybe Den.detiolatum is equal to Den.tanii. The name Den. Detiolatum came from some orchid traders that exported this orchid from Indonesia but the name seems unregistered and is only adapted by people here in Taiwan.
I have never heard of Den. Tanii before, but after searching online, I found these two plants we described are quite similar to each other. Den. Detiolatum, like Den. Bracteosum, has white version, too.

I have Den. bracteosum that I purchased about three years ago as a seedling in a two inch pot. It has made tremendous growth. It doesn't seem to have a rest period. The plant has about six, twelve inch canes and three new growths. Is my plant large enough to bloom and does it have to loose its leaves to bloom?

Your plant seems large enough to bloom. In most cases the blooms will appear on the canes that have lost their leaves although I have some plants that have blooms on canes with leaves.

Your plant is well & truely flowering size. They will actually flower from a plant half to 3/4 your size.
