Den. moschatum and anosmum questions
Default Den. moschatum and anosmum questions

So far this year I’ve managed to acquire a couple of species Dendrobiums, a D. moschatum keiki in mid-August and a Den. anosmum just recently as part of a lot of orchids I received from a friend!

After some research, I’ve come to find out that these plants want a rest for the winter months in which they’ll shed their leaves, but I was unsure as to how to go about inducing(or whether I NEED to induce)that rest.

I regret to inform that neither of these plants received the greatest care—the moschatum took a while to get used to it’s cedar plank but started producing new roots and leaves up until a few weeks ago…not sure why it stopped all of a sudden, so I gave it that little moss ball hoping it was just thirsty. The anosmum probably didn’t get as much water as it wanted based on the other plants I got from my friend, but it still has leaves and I gave it a bath in dilute Physan(part of my intake process for orchids) so it got a drink—I don’t know if my intake processes of spraying and soaking things would throw off the seasonal rest!

Slowly learning about different Dendrobium sections—thank you in advance!

Your climate is a lot different than mine, my plants get colder... I don't dry mine at all. The chil seems to trigger blooming. But even for you, I'd suggest no fertilizer and watering less often but " no water". In nature even if they get little rain in winter, they get dew. So the still need hydration.
