Default Increase flowering in D. auriculatum?

Hi

Any advice to increase amount of flower buds? Am new to orchids, new to dens, and have only had this plant for 1yr. I am getting 1 flowering bud every 10-14days. But it's one. On different canes too. Have not found much very info on this plant, so was also late in giving it a cooling down period...maybe early Dec when I realized I should have done it a few weeks prior. Currently in a west-facing window in coolest room in my home in a media of leca, pumice, & spahg. Lots of healthy roots, and actually got 4 new growths prior to the start of new year....which surprised me, as I thought dens only flower at this time. Minimal water every 7 days. Is 1 flower bud at a time normal? Any advice appreciated...thanks!

I am not a dendrobium grower, but thought I'd look that up in Orchid wiz to see what cultural advice there might be.

Unfortunately, I can find no such species or hybrid.

I think you mean Dendrobium auriculatum?

The local nursery has one, and even with its specimen size, it only holds a few flowers at a time.

I guess it's just not the type of plant to put on a real show.

Hi. I have and love this plant. That is the typical way it flowers for me too. One maybe two flowers at a time on random, usually older, canes

I have mine in a clay pot with my semi inorganic medium (it imcludes good bark with the rock) and I keep it in a saucer so it is moist at all times year round.

I’m in a weird climate so, take it for a grain of salt lol

That's just what Den auriculatum does... a few flowers at a time, one or at most two on a growth, but it keeps producing them over a long period of time. As the plant gets bigger, you will have more open at one time, but likely only one per growth. Do keep it damp... if it dries out too much it may lose leaves (and will anyway over time) but can still bloom on leafless canes - so don't cut any canes until they are light brown and very shriveled. Even leafless, they are very much alive and productive. It is a warm grower so don't worry about trying to keep it cool. I have two (both in the greenhouse), a mounted one that is mostly leafless (being mounted it does get dry fast) but blooms regularly, and a potted one that blooms even better.

I also corrected the thread title. That way it will show up in a search.
