Dendrobium speciosum spike watch...
Den speciosum is finally spiking (5!) I have no idea which subspecies this is...
Hopefully I can keep the snails and caterpillars at bay. Can't wait.

I have grown one of these in my entire 45 years...the spikes were 36"-48" long.

Nicely done! It will be a good spring. Maybe add some snail bait to the pot? Or Sluggo Plus (which also has Spinosad, which may help against caterpillars too) |

Spike update... a 6th spike is emerging!
It's getting a little precarious to move this thing around. Perhaps its time to stake these spikes.

I don't think you'll need to stake them - Den. speciosum spikes have a lot of substance... if they are pointed upward, that's the way they'll stay. |

If you have problems with snails and slugs, you can wrap copper tape around the pot. That's my plan for the summer. No chemicals to full with and just one application.
