Paph. Gloria Naugle finally bloomed....but

After many years of trying I finally got it to bloom and this is what I got. NS is 6", the color is pretty good, the form's not bad, but two dents in the pouch and a wonky staminode. It developed a couple sheaths two years ago but one blasted immediately and the other started to develop buds before it blasted. Hopefully it will straighten itself out if I can coax it into blooming again.

One unusual thing I did notice both times that it tried to bloom is that the growth that is about to bloom throws the last leaf with heavy anthocyanin pigmentation on the underside of the leaf before the sheath forms. Non of the other growths show this characteristic. Seems to be indicative of potential bloom.

Not bad for a first bloom! It's a bit wonky as you say, but the colors are amazing. Hopefully the bud behind it will be a nicely formed bloom. I also bloomed a Paph after many years of trying, only to discover that the bloom did not match the label...

I think waiting a long time and for a plant to flower only to find that the quality that you were expecting isn't there is bad enough. But waiting a long time only to find out that it isn't even the right plant is even worse (although I have had that work out in my favor).

When my Paph Bernice bloomed for the first time the leaves were all stuck together. Someone told me that Paphs can have wonkey blooms the first time around.
