Nice looking bud! I don't grow insigne(yet) but almost all my paphs have the same type of bud/ stem formation as yours. Once the bud starts to open the flower usually comes up.

Same for me. I don't grow many Paphs, but they do hang their heads till they bloom!

They will be hook shaped until its ready to bloom. The ovary will hardened and be more noticeable. It will also tilt upwards. Looking at it right now, should be fully open with 2-3 weeks. Don't quote me on that though.

that green dot, protuberance in the middle of the bloom. Just visible. Its something that I don't remember seeing before on any paph. Unusual.

there's a story to this one. I bought it from a lady in her late 80s whose husband had died last year. They had an interesting set-up in that the orchids ( all paphs ) were grown in a separately heated/cooled room attached to the garage. All are in good condition as a result and I got a couple of species, this was the only one in bud. The only thing not done on schedule was repotting and fertilising.

Along with the paphs was a ribbon - dating back to 1983 ! The orchids must be at least 50 years old. And this one bloomed after it was repotted. They are tough.
Well I hope my luck with paphs has turned because I have 2 that I have grown that look to be in bud.....it would really be a sad state if I get ancient paphs and then can't rebloom them again.......or worse kill them !

Wow old orchids. That's pretty cool. The bloom is beautiful. How many growths does it have? What other paphs do you have?
